Confessions of a Blogger
by Graceful Parenting

Hello. My name is Carol and I'm a blogger. I've been blogging for about six months.

I might be giving it up. I'm a Mom. I recently went back to work. I love my family. It is hard to find the time. Is blogging time-worthy? Is it worth the sleep I could have or extra time with my girls or reading the good books that I don't have time to read anymore?

I know to get readers I need to read blogs and comment on blogs and part of me thinks, if I'm just reading other blogs hoping that they will read mine, am I just reading so I can be read and then is that something that really matters?

I listened to the Queen of Spain on the We Show talk about how blogging isn't a one-way communication. It is a community and it's social and you need to listen as much as you talk.

And maybe that is my problem. I started blogging because I love to write and I've written on my own, for myself, for years and how strange and amazing it was to put it on the Internet for people to read.

But if this is going to last, I need to be a reader first. I need to find sites (BlogHer is one of them) and blogs (Queen of Spain is one of them) that I would read and love, even if I wasn't blogging myself. I need to listen and learn and comment and then go back to writing and maybe it will make more sense then.

So I'm going to start drinking again. (If blogging is being sober, I guess not blogging is drinking, right?) For a month I'm going to read and comment and not post and see where I end up. If I have found a community that is real and relevant to me and not just a task or a chore to increase my own traffic, then blogging will make sense and it will be worth staying up on a Saturday night until midnight on my laptop when I know my baby will be up at six.

Thanks for listening to my post about how I'm not posting. :) I look forward to reading your blogs.

Carol, you should definitly keep blogging. You said you like writing which is good enough reason for me :) Don't worry about how many people read it. Even if you just make it through to one person that should be satifying enough, don't you think? I do hope that after you are done your experimenting that you'll decide to post again, I look forward to reading more.

Thanks, Rebecca

Thanks for the comment. I took a month off and have been back to writing for a month or so now. I decided to focus more on Austin, but then I haven't had time to really do that, so I'm just doing what I can!
