I was going to post about my sister. You didn't know I had a sister? Well, sort of. She passed away when she was a baby.
But, I figured it's not my place to tell such a personal story, my mom has access to this blog though I'm sure she doesn't read it. I wrote down the whole story- beginning to end, as whole stories are want to have- so maybe at a future point I'll share it with you. Spoiler alert though- I cried while finishing it. It's a sad story (but all baby deaths are).
So, I'll talk about my interview today. I had an interview today.
Oh, you want more? It was at a really crappy mall in town- the Northgate mall. The CD Plus (like HMV or Sam's Club for my American readers) wants a new store manager. So, not to sound cocky but I think I got it in the bag. I think I fit into their dynamic and it'll give me more hours. It's music, movies and books, people. They sell themselves practically. The only thing I'll have to do to sell stuff is recommend.
"Oh, you like Avenged Sevenfold? Have you heard any H.I.M.? What about The 69 Eyes? If you want something more hard I'd recommend Rammstein or Children of Bodom or Cradle of Filth. Oh, you've heard them. Dir en Grey? Dying Fetus?"
Or for the lame in musical taste;
"I'm looking for something like Britney Spears or Katy Perry. What do you recommend?"
"Have you heard Amanda Ghost? M.I.A.? Amanda Ghost is a little softer but there are some excellent tunes on there. Feist, too, but then I'd recommend Imogen Heap or Lights as well as Stars."
"What about John Mayer?"
"Damien Rice, Josh Ritter, Ray LaMontagne, for sure. City in Colour, Stone Sour if you're looking for something hard, but they have some excellent songs."
What about books you say?
My top recommendations are Lovely Bones, Sister's Keeper, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Bloodtide (though that never made a bestseller's list), Abhorsen, Hounds of the Morrigan, The Other Boylen Girl.
For movies my recommendations are of course my favourites. Those being:
The Fall, Nightmare Before Christmas, The American President(he turns around and she's in his shirt...! Ah. Love it.), Chocolat, Avatar(say what you will, this movie is pretty awesome. I know it's a rip off of so many other scripts and book plots and it's essentially a furry-fetish Pocahontas but it is AMAZiNG. The animation when mixed with real life does not look out of place, though I will eat my worlds in a few years, and when Neytiri and Jake kiss is it the first time I've ever witnessed an animated kiss NOT look bad!).
See, and add that to manager stuff that I've done for what feels like forever, I'm golden, baby.
