We woke up to the news that Corey Haim has died.

The news has caught us off guard. Another 80s actor is gone, leaving us to reminisce about our past.

They just don't make movies like that anymore, do they?

He seemed like such a broken person the last time I saw a clip of him. Broken but on the mend. Hollywood really does a number on child actors. They do us such a honor at entertaining us but they get incredibly used up quickly. There really should be some kind of advocacy system for child actors and their parents. Mentorship? I don't, someone in the business who is sincerely looking out for their interests. But then you get someone like Dakota Fanning who still seems like a gem. It's hard to know who's susceptable and who will need the most help.

Hey Jen 5 pts

My mom IMed me yesterday and was OMG COREY HAIM IS DEAD! REMEMBER WHEN I WANTED TO KILL YOU FOR RINGING UP THE PHONE BILL CALLING HIM?! The bill was in the hundreds. I never personally got to talk to him, but I sure did try!

Maybe it is one, and it stuck in my head all these years? If not, it should have been :: nods ::

I thought it was just on the Simpsons. Corey F is rocking the MJ moves in that video. Classic!

I wonder if anyone really did get their private phone number?

You're kidding me. Who knew? I would love to hear some recordings from that. I wonder if anyone has them (and will release them, heh.)

And you are totally right. It was Corey Haim. No doubt about it.

Hey Jen 5 pts

I was so in love with him when I was young. In fact there was a 900# that you could call to "talk" to Haim and Feldman. I rang up the phone bill. Surprised my mum didn't strangle me!

I watched one or two of the episodes of the Two Corey's. It made me sad how life turned out for Haim. I knew he had drug problems and I had hoped that he turned his life around. So very sad.

"Hi, this is Corey. Hope you and I can get married someday!"

"Here are some words that rhyme with Corey: gory, story, allegory, Montessori ..."

Corey never had a last name on the Simpsons, but I always assumed he was Corey Haim. Corey Feldman was just not dreamy enough. He was often featured in Non-Threating Boys magazine.

...I know my youth is way behind me, and that's usually ok.

But the John Hughes tribute on the Oscars forced me to see so many of my favorite characters, and thus myself, all grown up and... OLD even. And now this... my youth lies in shambles all around me.

I'll always love "The Lost Boys."

Lucas obviously influenced my love of cheerleaders (but that was my crush on Kerri Green) and we quote from it often, but my husband and I still recite Lost Boys.  That was OUR Twilight.

The really sad thing about this is that if you followed his struggles, you knew it was inevitable that he was going to go early.  Poor Corey.  I loved all of his movies when I was a kid.  He was my first celebrity crush besides He-Man.

I do not like this trend of 80s stars dying. At all.

Denise 9 pts moderator

Hah. That sounds like a line from a John Hughes movie.

For me it's the death of teen or early adulthood. HMPH. You're so young.
