Halloween doesn't have to be all about the candy, even when kids are involved. With a little planning ahead, you can have other Halloween treats that will still be tasty and fun. I've been scouring blogs for weeks looking for Halloween ideas, and I'll be sharing lots more Halloween tips next week, but today I'm here to encourage you to make some caramel apples this Halloween.
Of course, caramel apples are not just for Halloween, but they're enough trouble that most people probably need a special occasion to be inspired to try making them. And while caramel is definitely loaded with sugar, certainly a treat involving apples is better than plain candy! Traditional caramel apples made with melted caramel squares are always popular, but there are also new ideas for caramel apples, if you want to try something easier, less sweet, or more healthy. And if you're not into sticky caramel on apples, there are other ways to get that caramel apple flavor.

Heidi at 101 Cookbooks wanted to try a caramel apple recipe without white sugar, corn syrup, or melted caramel squares, and her version of Caramel Apples sweetened with honey look delicious. (pictured above)
At Baking Bites, Nicole offers suggestions on the Best Apples for Caramel Apples.
Traditional caramel recipes use sugar and butter, but if you don't want to use butter, Dog Hill Kitchen can tell you how to make Vegan Caramel Apples.
The Caramel Toffee Apples at Hot off the Garlic Press really look fantastic, and there are some cute decorating ideas here too.

If you want an easy version of caramel apples that kids can help with, the Crockpot Caramel Apples at A Year of Crockpotting sound simple. (pictured above)
For a treat involving raw apples but no fuss of coating the apples, Divine Domesticity has Caramel Apple Dip served with apple slices.
There are also lots of dessert ideas with caramel apple flavor:
Holly at Phemomenon has pressure cooker Caramel Apple Rice Pudding.
Prudence Pennywise has Caramel Apple Creme Brulee.
Recipe Girl has Caramel Apple Bars.
Columbus Foodie has Caramel Apple and Pear Crisp.
Dianne's Dishes has Caramel Apple Cake.
Finally, no actual apples were dipped, but the Caramel Apple Cupcakes almost look like caramel apples at Culinary in the Country.
