Food writer Lydia Walshin made the switch from magazine writing to food blogging more than four years ago, when she launched The Perfect Pantry, a blog about her favorite 250 pantry ingredients with recipes for how to use them.

Lydia Walshin

In her log house kitchen in rural northwest Rhode Island, Lydia teaches cooking classes and runs a nonprofit organization she founded, Drop In & Decorate Cookies for Donation, that helps people all around the country donate cookies to agencies meeting the basic human needs of food or shelter in their own communities. Every weekend, she makes soup, and in February 2010 her love of soup gave birth to Soup Chick, a blog about all things soup: recipes, soup cookbooks, tools of the soup maker's trade, and more. A list of soups you can Make Ahead and Freeze was created especially for Soup Swap.

Lydia's favorite-for-now recipe is white bean soup with bacon, feta, thyme and lemon -- a powerhouse of Greek flavors. Lydia says, "It's a hearty soup, but the lemon keeps it from being a heavy soup."
