Last year during the holiday giving season, the recession was really gloomy news for nonprofits.   Colleagues Allison Fine and Marnie Web started something called the Givelist.  It was a crowd sourced list of ways that one could support causes that don't necessarily require writing a check.

CommonKindness is another way that people can support a cause without necessarily writing a check.

If you're like many of us, when times get tight we start pinching pennies and clipping coupons.   But with CommonKindness, your frugalness can help a nonprofit causes. Grocery doesn't see so boring anymore.

How does it work?

CommonKindness receives revenue from the brands who offer coupons and discounts on the site. CommonKindness, in turn, donates 60 percent of its profits to charities and causes selected by people who visit the site and clip coupons.  Shoppers get a source for coupons, causes get some money, and businesses get another outlet to advertise their products.

CommonKindness also offers local merchants the opportunity to post coupons for their products and services on the site for free via an online platform.

The site's founders are two moms Calandra Cruickshank and Dana Valdez who wanted people to save money on their grocery bills while giving back to their favorite nonprofit causes.   According to Cruickshank, consumers can save up to $1,300 in groceries per year with CommonKindness.   Andrew Martin McGovern is  the founding chairman.  Martin sold his successful company - SmartFood Inc., to Pepsico/FritoLay Corp.

What a great idea!  This was the first I had heard of it.  We work with a lot of non-profits, so I will surely pass this along.  Thanks........Cheers!  Julianne
