Craft Trend: Arm Knitting! (Learn. Make. Wear!)
By VickieHowell on January 03, 2014
Arm knitting has been all over Pinterest for the past year or so, but an article on it (and designer, Andrea Brena) in the Wall Street Journal in December threw both crafters and the yarn industry into a "make it now!" frenzy. I happened to be in New York City when the article hit stands, but didn't really think much of it (since the aforementioned Pinterest attention made it seem like old news) until multiple local yarn store owners approached me for arm knitting scoop -- the fever was clearly building!
As the creativity spokesperson for a major yarn company, it was my duty to get on the case. I quickly learned, created a couple (or five) cowls, and shot a how-to video. As a hard-core yarn craft fan though, it was my likelihood to become addicted. Although arm knitting is limiting in many ways and will never replace my true, traditional knitting and crochet loves -- it has been an absolute blast to play with. It's also exactly what the crafty doctor ordered for those of us who've been running at 150 mph over the holiday season, and just need something creative that is also instantly gratifying. If you're looking for lush, then go to arm knitting. Here's my how to video to get you started and a couple of neck wear patterns to keep you going.
