Dual-Income Parents: The Exhausted American Middle

Back in the mythic 50s and 60s, housewives like Betty Friedan and Betty Draper were very bored. The Feminine Mystique opens with this description of an average housewife’s day: “Many women no longer left their homes, except to shop, chauffeur their children or attend a social engagement with their husbands.” ...more

"Got Milf? - A Mommalogue" by Sarah Maizes

"Got Milf?"  You should!  This is a link to the video of my performance of my "Mommalogue" (I made up that word...so proud of it), which I performed for "Expressing Motherhood" here in LA last month.Send this video to your girlfriends, sisters, aunts (yes...maybe even your own mother) and let them know it's time for Milf's EVERYWHERE to stand up and be counted!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYJ8PL6OxxI(F.Y.I., there is no inappropriate material contained on the video - but the language is a little "sassy")....more

'Nobody said life would be easy'

Apathy (noun): 1: lack of feeling or emotion: impassiveness. 2: lack of interest or concern: indifference.I don't understand apathy. I don't get not feeling emotions -- though I could see how someone might confuse states I have been in in the past as being in a state of apathy. I don't think I was though. At points in my past, sometimes extended periods at a time, I lived in a state of self-induced numbness. Sometimes, what you feel can be so overwhelming that you aren't prepared, don't know how to deal with it....more

Need an answered prayer?

JMJ Do you have a prayer request? A special need?  Well, I spent all night placing a live webcam to Lourdes, France on my website, including a little mailbox to their prayer request email.  All kinds of weird computer problems kept cropping up, and I kept offering them up as a prayer, which did help to keep me from being annoyed.  Then... This morning I got an email from a friend who told me that today is OUR LADY OF LOURDES FEAST DAY!  Wow.  I had no idea!  That is just so cool... ...more

WARNING: Bored Domesticated Female on the Loose!

Haven't been inspired to write this past week because frankly, I got a really, really bad case of Boreditis. Let me tell you something, there is NOTHING worse than a bored housewife, mom, 40-something woman who is on the verge of being pre-menopausal! You know when we moms get really bored, we do serious shopping. That can be a dangerous thing to the bank account. But since it's the first of the month and already, I am completely broke - that just isn't an option at the moment....more

Big Change Chronicles: Moving Across Town, Remembering What Home Means

by Agnes KrupI discovered the first grey in my hair on Christmas day – several grey hairs, actually. Grey is not easy to detect in blond, but there they were, unmistakably. They looked quite beautiful (if I may say so myself): my head of straw given a quiet shine of distinction by just a dozen of strategically located individual hairs....more
