Dried Cherry and Roasted Pepito Dark Chocolate Bark

Cherry Pepita Bark

My first foray into making chocolate bark was last Christmas—we were snowed in and I wanted to make something festive using whatever ingredients I could find in my pantry. This time, I had purchased some roasted and salted pepitas to make a sauce for skirt steak tacos, then figured out that I'd bought the wrong thing. What to do with them? The pepitas made a nice salty snack, but I do love a little sweet with my salt. The result is my Dried Cherry and Roasted Pepita Dark Chocolate Bark.  Read more >

At My House, the Holidays Don't End Until February

dedecorating

Dear Mouthy Housewives,My stupid Christmas tree is taunting me. I know it's time for that dried up thing to come down but I just have no motivation this time of year. Without fail, I always become that weird house that doesn't take their decorations down until the end of February. How can I avoid that this year?  Read more >

Holiday Work

'Tis the season for holiday employment. The holidays are a notoriously difficult time for many singles. Gifts of Impermanence

Soap

If you have ever moved - ever packed up your worldly belongings and lugged them from place to place - then you will appreciate this rhetorical question: How much 'stuff' does one really need? Other than a ukulele and a grain grinder, I can't say I want for anything right now, which is why I'm asking my Loved Ones to gift me (and others) with Things That Go Away. For example:Candles  Read more >

It's Your Party and I'll Stay Home If I Want To

holiday party

Dear Mouthy Housewives,Are people obligated to attend their spouse's office Christmas party? My husband expects me to go to his (I don't make him go to mine), and I REALLY don't want to go. It's just one more thing on my already overscheduled holiday calendar.I don't really know the people there and have little in common with them. Plus, most office parties are completely boring and I kind of resent forking out for a babysitter just so I can hang out with people I don't know and be bored out of my mind.  Read more >

Make 'Em Laugh: Gifts of Comedy

Laugh

What is funny to one person may not be funny to another, but laughter is the healthiest involuntary response (second maybe only to sleep) that your body can experience. Humor identifies common ground, breaks tension and brings people together. So why not spread it around this holiday season?  Read more >

Holidays and Business: Striking a Balance

I have a theory about why there is so much stress around the holiday season...and it holds no judgment or specific-holiday-tradition-centric connotations. Do you know what it is?  Read more >
