reply to "just stay home"

You pose an interesting thing that I debate about with some other people. Personally, I think that if you can afford to stay home with your kids you should. Obviously that doesn't apply to your situation since you help pay the mortgage, but there are some moms who just work because they want to work. I personally wouldn't work if I didn't have to, although I am the sole breadwinner in the house so I have no choice. I think it's important that at least one parent can stay home if they can - whether it's the mom OR the dad. It's a tough thing, but I certainly wouldn't be verbally critical of a woman if that's what she chooses to do. I just think that some people get out of control with thinking they NEED certain things in their lives and therefore must sustain 2 incomes to get all of these "things".

But how rude it was of your co-worker to tell you to just stay home. It doesn't sound like you have much of a choice given the financial responsibility.

Yet ANOTHER Tired Mamma

It is helpful to know there are so many amazing women out there who understand what it feels like.

I'm in my house with three little boys and one big one. It's good to have a community of women in the neighborhood, at work, and online.

Thanks for sharing!!

I wrote about this on both my blog but what do you all say to someone at work (not family or neighbors) who says "You should just stay home and be with your kids"? Aside from the fact that I contribute to the mortgage, I like my professional identity.

While I wanted to yell at her I just mumbled out of the conversation.

First time moms

LOL -- the first time moms really kill me. I, too, was blissfully unaware of what the word "tired" meant prior to me having children. Someone I work with is pregnant with her first child, and I can already see the train wreck coming. She has no idea what she is signing up for. But as I said, I was like that, too, so we all live and learn!

Feeling drained too!

My kids are older and things have gotten better but my mom (who is 78) tells me she still feels drained and can't sleep!
So I guess we're in this for life!

Another Tired Mom Checking In

I can completely relate. Over the weekend, I stopped in a local nail salon to get a manicure. When I was sitting in the massage chair after the manicure (LOVE THAT!), a pregnant woman sat down next to me. You could SO tell that this was her first; she was calm, cool, serene and completely relaxed. She's in for a wild ride, but I wouldn't have it any other way. ;)

Thanks for the link on your blog! That's really cool! And sorry everyone for the double post - apparantly I'm to tired to notice that I posted my reply twice.

Thanks to everyone for keeping this forum going -- it has helped me immensely to realize I am not alone!

Tired Mom

I make a little time for me. I am the mother of one child and often in awe of those who are managing to raise more than one because over the years I have found just the one to be exhausting. Like so many of the mothers here, I blog as well. I often write about the many educational and play resources I have found on the web. I used to sit my child down in front of one of them and get her going and I would sit in the chair behind her with a good book. When she was too young for the computer, I actually read the book to her. She didn't care what it was, she just enjoyed the reading. My daughter is now a teenage National Honor Society, basketball playing, class president, social butterfly. I don't have to sit next to her now at the computer--at least not as much. In other words, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Please take a look at the reviewed websites listed in my profile. I think they will help you find a little time for yourself, and enrich your young ones as well.

I linked you up at mine so I can read during my "downtime" at work. That is usually when I have time to post. It is hard to write at home w/ a teething one year old and a curious 3 year old.

Overscheduling

I hear what you mean about the overscheduling and I do believe that it exists. However, with your situation, having your kids in a soccer program is not overscheduling. And wearing them out is a good thing! Now if you have your children in soccer, basketball and the drama club concurrently, then that is overscheduling. I know it, because my SIL and her husband do it with their kids and I don't think that's right. Some parents get way out of control with it - that doesn't sound like your agenda.

Former NYC commuter

As a former resident of the Jersey shore, who is now misplaced in the Midwest, I can say that eliminating the NYC commute is by far a great energy-saver. So been there, done that. But you gotta do, what you gotta do...

Working Mama/Tired Mama

Hello fellow female bloggers! I am new to BlogHer and new to blogging itself. Just started my blog last month. What I want to know is, does any other working mom feel completely drained, or am I the only one with mind-altering fatigue? I'm guessing the answer is no, but I need to know what other moms do to get through this! I'm a mother to 2 boys: ages 4 and 7 months.
