I hope you'll take some pics yourself this year and post them. Chicago is a wonderfully photogenic town, but nothing will beat some candid Blogher pics!

my good friend caitlin is a teacher and photographer on the side. i think she, like myself, is relatively new to blogging but she has some great Chi Town shots on her site:

http://web.me.com/caitlingraham/photos/Welcome.html

hope you enjoy! welcome to Chicago next week. I'm bummed I JUST learned about blogher and the conference which is taking place where I live. Maybe next year I'll be able to attend!

Photobloggers of the Windy City

I've returned from my quick trip to New York City, just in time to start preparing for my quick trip to Chicago -- can you believe that the BlogHer '09 conference is now just a week away? I don't know about you, but (a) this summer is flying by way too fast, and (b) I haven't done a thing to start preparing for next week's trip. Nothing, that is, until now.

One of my favourite things to do in order to get ready for a trip to a place that I know will provide a lot of photography fodder is to search the internet for images of that city. Flickr.com, of course, is an obvious online destination, (and trust me when I tell you there are some beautiful images of Chicago on that site), but to really get a good feel for day-to-day life in a city, nothing beats finding the work of a local photo blogger. And so, since this is a blogging conference and I am, after all, a photographer, I thought I'd poke around the internet to see what photoblogging sisters were out there in Chi-town making their photography magic:

First up is Jennifer Brown, of jennifer brown photography. Her site is a true minimalist, classic photoblog -- no words or distracting designs competing with her beautiful images. I love how she captures little details: her photographs, rich with colour, somehow feel a bit lonesome and forlorn to me. I love it -- instant fave.

Ana, over at image ANAlogy, also shares images from her day-to-day life in Illinois in huge, colourful format. Her work feels very familiar: when you look at her photographs, you can't help but wonder if you've been their before. Lovely, relatable work.

And finally, Rachellb.com, at rachelleb.com, accompanies her lively, vivid photographs with her commentary of life in the Windy City -- her work features fun portraits, vivid photojournalistic shots, and some really stellar food photography. Looking at her site, you can't help but leave with the feeling that Chicago is a very, very fun town.

So! Looks like next week is going to be full of very good times! If you're a photographer (local to Chicago or otherwise), I do hope you'll come tap me on the shoulder to say hello. I'm always looking for inspiration!

Karen is a writer and a photographer in Houston, Texas. You can read/see more of her work at Chookooloonks.
