Well, since I don't understand Math and Science, I should give up on my career in design and engineering and go back to... erm, accounting? no...

I don't mind gender roles... within the bounds of relationships. I do what I do best and my husband/brother/father/uncle, etc does what they do best and we complement one another. But I don't care for being told by others what my gender is or is not good at. It rankles a little because I can immediately think of so many people who DON'T fit neatly into little boxes.

Ants

If that's true, then there's something seriously wrong with my family! We better quickly run, or better yet rent a helicopter, to take us to the nearest shrink. My husband's favorite color is purple, I love my son's ant farm and science, my one son plays with dolls, the other is always being mistaken for a girl because I dress him in a lot of whites and yellows which are apparently the new "girl colors" and our male dog squats to pee instead of lifting his leg. Just in case you were wondering about ant farms, because I know I spend a lot time doing that (just kidding) there's a
virtual ant farm coming out in November that's being marketed to businessmen, not businesswomen. I don't even know where to being with that one! Our female cats appear to be "okay" though. Phew!
Gender Biases

Besides the obvious - you know - biological differences, I have to admit, having boy/girl twins I have found that there are certain innate differences in boys and girls. I actually posted something about it yesterday here.

You know, as much as I love beer and football, I think chocolate works too.

Oh Teach Me, Wise John Stossel (Gag)

As I was half-heartedly watching General Hospital with my friend this afternoon, a commercial for this evening’s 20/20 made me sit up straight and take notice. It seems that the show decided to use science to discover whether “gender stereotypes” were fact or myth.

Sept. 28, 2006 — People joke about the differences between men and women: Men don't listen. Women can't read maps. Men snore more. Women are less likely to have affairs.
But are men and women really different or are those statements myths?
It turns out that science says men and women are different.
Watch the report on "20/20" Friday at 10 p.m.

While I missed the show, I did tune into the 20/20 website to learn whether I (a woman), in fact, cannot do math or understand science, but listen better than men and am overly emotional during sex. The site even lets people vote on “proven gender myths” that most annoy them.

Check it out. Cry. Eat chocolate to console yourself, like women tend to do. (Just kidding on that last one, although I personally find that chocolate and/or baked goods work well.)

Suzanne also blogs "like a girl" at Campaign for Unshaved Snatch (CUSS) & Other Rants, albeit with much fouler language
