Must chime in about The Amazing Race. I've watched it since it began, and it's my all-time favorite. It's about half way through the season, so you've missed a fair bit of drama, but it's pretty easy to catch up with the team personalities and pick a fav.
I'm a couple of episodes behind on Survivor. I stopped watching for several seasons, and this one is just not grabbing me. I don't cook enough to enjoy Top Chef (although I don't model or eat bugs or Dance with Stars, so I don't know why that should stop me!)

Amazing race is my recommendation

The Amazing Race just started here (Australia) the other night - the first one with the families. I love the family (or couple dynamics). I think it's a real test of relationships and I'm so glad when the obnoxious ones come in last.

My other reality tv guilty pleasure is Big Brother. I know I know, it's not great tv at all, it's actually quite boring but for some reason I'm compelled to watch it.

I also recommend The Amazing

I also recommend The Amazing Race and Top Chef. The latter is great particularly because it fills that talent-based void left by Project Runway. Only problem is that it always makes me hungry!

Like the others..

Elisa,

I would love to help you.

The only "competition-type" shows on now are Amazing Race, Top Chef and Survivor (and of course RealWorld/RoadRules Challenge on MTV.) Of those, I am watching Top Chef but not sure I'm enjoying it. I've liked AR in the past, don't watch it now because of timing issues.

Ya know.. you reviewed two programs all summer, then jumped right into Dancing. I think you've earned a holiday vacation.

I'm watching Top Chef

...which has tons of drama already and we're not too far in. You can probably TiVo the past episodes and be caught up this week.

The Bachelor is wrapping up...Top Model is in the home stretch, too.

Hmmmmm. Idol *does* seem far away!

I can't think of anything to suggest for you between now and AI. It's a weird time with sweeps this month and then the Thanksgiving-to-New Year's lull.

Given your veggie-gone-vegan transformation, Top Chef is out and it's well underway. You might like Amazing Race even though it's not in "talent" mold, but again it's pretty far along. Survivor is far along and is all about being mean and cruel.

You might check out the rebroadcast of PBS' America's Ballroom Challenge but I think it was only two episodes long and is over. It was strangely fascinating, though, and gives great perspective for evaluating DWTS.

I'm stumped! Which is rather astonishing given the ridiculous amount of television I watch.

On the non-reality side if you're at all interested in recapping, my top two suggestions would be The OC and The Wire.

Dancing with the Stars is wrapping up, and American Idol seems so far away...

OK, BlogHers...I need your help. It's time to come out of your Reality TV closet; it's time to expose your guilty pleasures. It's time to tell me what to watch.

Here's the deal: Dancing with the Stars ends this coming week. American Idol doesn't start until January. That leaves a gap.

Hard to imagine, but I'm a Reality TV snob. I am known to say that I only watch the "talent-oriented" realty shows. I like shows where the contestants perform something...a song, a dance, a fashion design...and I get to judge whether I like the outcome. Im some cases I'm quite qualified to do so. In others, as Tim Gunn is wont to say: "it's a matter of taste."

I often say I don't like shows about personality or strategy because they're mostly about being mean and cruel.

But for this next month I'm willing to be led by you, BlogHers. I'm willing to try another Reality TV show, even if it's not talent-oriented.

What am I missing? What should I be watching? What would I really really like, if I would only give it a chance?

My mind is open, let me have it!
