Blogging my frustrations feels good, but to get such a warm response is such a huge experience.

My co-worker was just telling me today that when I have grandchildren (!?), I'll notice an even BIGGER dork-nut emerge from my already deranged status.

I can hardly wait - I think.

We thought that's why we gave her two brothers, but, even after nearly 12 years, there are times where that seems to have backfired, and, we are still entertaining her.

I could start with something pithy like "being a mom means taking on many different roles", but the chorus of DUHs that would ring out throughout the Internet would deafen me. (But it is true!) I have yet to meet a mom who has not been thrust into this one particular role time and time again. That is the role of the playmate.

Ada over at Dirty Olive came to the conclusion that the reason people feel her son needs a sibling is because she herself has become like his sibling. Going from being the good mommy who is the best friend to the bad mommy who has to be the boss. She fills all those roles to her toddler son. And admits it is hard.

Those with younger toddlers may think this is cute, beautiful and a time to be treasured. Although I have never really been one to call a gift-horse in the mouth when it comes to my "perfect angel", the role as the sole playmate to this three year old is HARD.

It is hard to be the best friend to a 3 year old. (Or any preschooler for that matter.) Whereas you feel you will never actually hum the Dora theme song in the grocery store, you probably will. But there is pressure to be the "everything friend" to your child.

Well, she summed it up with one of my favorite quotes I have ever seen on this topic:

I'm sure I'll look back on this time as cute, beautiful and treasured in my "later" years but, he brings out the seriously deranged dork-nut in me and do you know how difficult that is to turn off?

"Bringing out the seriously deranged dork-nut." When I stop giggling over this I just may have to comment about how much I want to make this my new slogan in regards to my daughter. "Being a toddler's playmate brings out the seriously deranged dork-nut in me!" What about you? I know we are not alone in this. Do tell!
