Methods

Hi Beth, was just showing someone how much you'd managed to "action" from running online campaigns and it occurred to me I really should find the time to copy your methods.

I don't suppose you've posted a HOW-To anywhere ?

Perhaps I could just follow the above post ...

Kindest regards

Alison

Sharing Foundation Wins Network for Good Charity Badge/Yahoo Competition!!!

This New Year's Eve I didn't watch the ball drop on Times Square because I was glued to my laptop helping my favorite cause, the Sharing Foundation, raise almost $100,000 via my blog!

Three weeks ago, using what I learned from my first personal fundraising campaign, I launched a second campaign to raise money for the Sharing Foundation education programs using the Network For Good Charity Badge and entering the Yahoo! For Good competition which would double the amount raised by the winner.

We won!

In just over three weeks, we raised $49,537 from 745 donors and adding the Yahoo Matching dollars brings the total to $99,074! That's a big deal for a small grassroots organization like the Sharing Foundation. Personal fundraising works! (And, of course, the competition and leveraging power of a matching grant helped.)

Here's a screenshot of the charity badge taken on December 31st at midnight PST.

I know the badge says I've Raised $49537 from 745 Donations! It
really should say We I didn't do this alone.

There was lots of help from the Sharing
Foundation family (board members, volunteers, and supporters), especially TSF's founder, Dr. Hendrie, whose relentess attention to the campaign made it successful. She even took her laptop door to doorin her housing complex and helped her neighbors, also senior citizens, make donations online.

In addition, we received donations from the Cambodian adoptive parent community and their families, neighbors, churches, synagogues, fellow employees, golf buddies, quilting clubs, book clubs, parents of their children's school mates, high school and college friends, and beyond. Many of our supporters forwarded the message to their personal networks. I was also touched that the Cambodian American community rallied for us!

I did my part too. I blogged about the cause during the holidays and approached friends, professional colleagues, and family -- both online and offline. I admit to getting a little obsessive towards the end, even emailing people who had invited me into their social networks and taking my laptop to the gym and inviting folks in my yoga class to donate.

This money will send over thousand Cambodian youngsters to school in 2007, plus cover the costs of the Sharing Foundation's educational programs which include a pre-school, khmer literacy program, English language program in the local village schools, vocational training (sewing school) and high school/college sponsorship
programs.

BlogHer founder, Lisa Stone, encouraged me to post a follow up on BlogHer and let folks know that they could still donate. Hmm ... we're $661 dollars away from an even $100,000 ...

Beth Kanter, BlogHer Contributing Editor for NGOS and Social Change, blogs at Beth's Blog where you can find the Charity Badge and click on the orange donate button.
