Seriously, Denise, I think Moreena has done a better job articulating the health care needs of Americans better than any elected official I've heard talk on the subject.
She's articulate, well-read and uses enough pop-culture references to deliver Googlejuice for the topic.

I think we should email her post and yours to our congressional reps. Brilliant -- thanks.

I haven't blogged about it but this topic is very important to me. I live in California and when it was clear that Arnold was going to re-elected by a landslide, I wrote in the name of the state legislator (Sheila Kuehl - who would make a great governor for many other reasons, including that she's considered the smartest legislator) who wrote and got passed universal healthcare legislation which Arnold vetoed.

I regularly let all my elected officials how I feel about things but it doesn't seem to have convinced anyone of my superior wisdom. ;-)

State of the Union: Healthcare

I am not a political blogger, let's just get that out of the way right now. However, I do know a political topic that people are passionate about when I see one.

I found a good bit of passion when I went looking for women who blogged about the healthcare initiatives adddressed in President Bush's State of the Union address.

Our very own Ronni Bennett calls Bush's plan shameful:

The bottom line in presidentâ€™s proposal is that those who can afford to purchase health coverage get a deduction, and those who cannot afford health coverage remain uninsured.

Shelley Powers sees the benefit - to insurance companies...

The cost to pay for all this really isn't the problem. What is, is the health care organizations that are overcharging for services that are being underutilized because someone somewhere wants to make a buck off the backs of Americans. There is a Health Machine that doesn't want universal health care. It's not because people are worried about you and me, or jobs, or because of increased taxes, and it's not because of what the country can and cannot afford. It all comes down to profits and quarterly reports and executive bonuses.

Moreena is angry and Bush's speech gave her a health insurance headache.

We need a healthcare solution that doesn't fix only a portion of the problem, while simultaneously making life worse for so many. We need a total overhaul that doesn't make me feel like I'm being talked down to by the likes of DJ Jazzy Jeff, not even in my own MTV-addled head.
