Freedom for humanity cannot exist within a structure that does not support complete freedom for half of the human population.

I can't help but think that people do not think this stuff through. Do they really think that people do notthink long and hard often in painful circumstances to make these decisions. I just don't understand how a court can rule to take away the rights of an individual to make such decisions for herself.It is incomprehensible to me.

Reading that excerpt made a wave of anxiety and sickness pass through me.

These experiences are horrible enough for most people. Why do they have to make them even more nightmarish? It isn't fair.

April 18th's Supreme Court decision bans late-term abortion with no provision for the health of the mother. The ruling affects even those families who planned a pregnancy, and family members are discussing this ban in a new way. The spirit of this ban is not about teen pregnancy and many Americans' desire to pretend teens or young women don't have sex.

In the past week we've heard how this decision has affected people of all generations- from BlogHer's Ronni Bennett to doctors in the field. Harvard physician Michael Greene writes `Lacking confidence in the judicial system, physicians may choose to avoid performing second-trimester surgical abortions, thus restricting access to them, perhaps even if the mother's life is in jeopardy."

Now we hear from a father, a husband for whom the now banned procedure represented his one hope to save both members of his family

I sat there, wondering if I'd at least get my wife back after this. Then 20 minutes passed, and nothing. Thirty minutes. Forty. Forty five. I started to get worried and thought all sorts of horrible things that I will not put words to. Mainly, then, I start to think about the abortion debate. About pro-lifers, in particular. I think about all those meddling politicians that would want to interject themselves into everything that just happened to me, interject themselves between me, my wife, and her doctors. And then I had a strong, visceral reaction. I wanted the m***kers to die. I wanted to rip off their heads and tear out their hearts, because how DARE they play politics with my wife's life? The baby was fine until the end. I wondered if that would have meant they'd force us to let my wife bleed until almost death before they'd let us abort, because well, if she's not near death, then it is just a 'health' exception, and we can't have that! Fuck them. ... This was what went through my mind as I sat there, waiting to see if, after my baby died, my wife had died as well.
