I remember making and wearing that t-shirt (What happens at BlogHer Stays at BlogHer) last year. It would be good for a button, too. :-) Playing with the buttons is fun.

BlogHer Isn't For Everyone

I definitely vote for

I definitely vote for keeping the emphasis on BlogHER. Isn't part of the purpose that so much of the net is male-centric? This is the one place where we hold the spotlight. If you go to the research on single sex classrooms, there is a reason why girls do better (and now boys too) in all girl rooms. We interact in different ways and we have different styles of community. I was at BlogHer last year and saw that while some guys are good at playing by our style, some are not. And they make it uncomfortable at times.

It's all in the name...

You all have always been VERY clear that men are welcome, and there are several other buttons. Maybe Elizabeth didn't see them before she posted?

And you're right...it is BlogHER, after all, and as I understand it the site exists to harness the communications power of women, specifically - sharing voices that might not otherwise be heard. The men who show up and participate seem to be cool with that - and in some cases to benefit if they represent businesses, etc. If they weren't comfortable with it, I can't imagine they would come anyway (unless it's to heckle, and that wouldn't last, for sure!) Isn't there even a fundraising effort to help a guy attend Blogher? I can't remember the folks involved but I remember reading about it.

I put the "girls" button on my blog, and I actually surprised myself when I did so, because to be honest, I normally, er, eschew such gender-specific things. Call me an 80s-child, Cyndi Lauper-loving sort, but I just thought it was fun, and who doesn't need fun in the summer? I think I'd like a "New Girl Order" one but I'll take what you creative ladies dish up for me in the meantime. : )

Four out of Five Buttons Agree...

Hi Elizabeth: Well, I'm not sure it actually excludes, given it doesn't say anything about being a girl, but you're absolutely right that we like to emphasize that men are more than welcome to attend BlogHer.

Given that all of the other buttons at the link Kristy provides are gender-neutral, I think there are plenty of buttons to choose from for a man who wouldn't feel comfortable with this one. This one happens to be a new one, so it's featured here.

And I think we don't always have to ignore our female slant...after all the name is BlogHer, and the conference will likely be attended by at least 80% women.

What do other folks think?

And hey, Kristy...where's the "What Happens at BlogHer, Stays at BlogHer" button? That one is definitely gender neutral :)

The button is great, but

The button is great, but doesn't it exclude the MEN who will be coming to the conference? We had this discussion last year too, about how BlogHer is for everybody.

Elizabeth blogs at Table for Five, MomReviews, and MomCooks.

BlogHer '07 Conference Button Bling

Back by popular demand, we've created some conference buttons for your blogs.

They're simple to add (just cut and paste the code into your blog template) and are a fun way to let people know about the conference, and/or that you'll be joining us in Chicago.

Check out all the BlogHer '07 Buttons here.
