The program looks good to

The program looks good to me, there are so many people who give you the wrong advices it becomes difficult to find the right path. My brother who is on alcohol recovery needs a perfect diet plan as inactivity for a long time can make him vulnerable to obesity, I would love to follow the aforesaid plan here.

Additional Weight Loss Blog

Hi! I'm relatively new to BlogHer and can't get over the breadth and depth of topics covered. Catherine, you are so genuine and responsive in your posts plus you add so much great content - thank you!

My colleague and co-author and I have a BlogHer weight loss blog focusing on fighting antidepressant weight gain and emotional overeating called The Serotonin Power Diet Blog:
http://www.blogher.com/node/20551.

I wrote a comment on your "Science of appetite and weight loss control article where I said something some dieters love hearing: that you can have your cake and eat it, too, (as long as it's fat free!) since carbs allow your brain to make serotonin naturally, and serotonin controls appetite and makes you feel good.

http://www.blogher.com/node/21118

With warm regards,
We're all in this together!

Catherine:

Thank you for the mention of my daily blogsite.
Whether it's diet, weight loss, eating disorders, fitness, or nutrition--it's all health. Food is life, and we're all in this together.
My eating tip of the day: Eat more fish! Unless you're vegan, fish, especially the cold-water variety, possess omega-3 fatty acids. According to Dr. Ralph Felder (The Bonus Years Diet), these acids stabilize cell membrane, preventing arrhythmias, abnormal, rapid heart rhythms that can be deadly. Other preventables: blood clots, high triglycerides, plaque in the arteries, stickiness of the blood. (P.47) If you'd like to know more about the latest in cardiovascular food-related research, read my interview with Dr. Ralph Felder: http://www.BasilAndSpice.com
I have the same problem.

I haven't done Weight Watchers, but I have the same problem with falling off the weight loss wagon. It's very easy to get discouraged trying to lose weight, but I'm hoping it will be different this time with all of the support I am getting from other bloggers.

Time will tell.

As an on-again, off-again Weight watchers member, I get easily discouraged when it comes to weight loss. I do well for so long and then fall off the plan at the next holiday.

The summers of grilling and barbecues do me in!

Thanks for your comment and your link. I think you make a very good point that we all need to take an honest look at the damage disordered eating can cause.

Thank you for having the courage to talk openly about your struggle, I'm sure many other women who are struggling with this disorder will look to you and your blog for inspiration.

My blog discusses food quite

My blog discusses food quite a bit, but from a somewhat different angle. I am recovering from an eating disorder and trying to feel "normal" again, and learning how to live without food and weight being the main focus of my life. I can't say I provide a lot of tips or encouragement, but I think I provide an honest look at the damage disordered eating causes and the struggle to recover.

Healthy eating needs to become a lifestyle change...

I agree Mizzi -- Healthy eating needs to become a lifestyle change if you want to have any success at it. That is why I am trying to NOT make my diet a "radical deprivation", I am trying to gradually eliminate the "bad" while gradually including the "good". I've done it before with a lot of success, and now as I am getting older I see all the health benefits of making smarter food choices.

Thanks for your comment and insight.

The Fit Shack

Hi Catherine,

Thank you so much for mentioning The Fit Shack! I'm very happy that I can provide some inspiration and motivation to you and anyone else who is reading my blog. :)

Just like you said, I am very passionate about this topic, not only for myself, but also because I believe that one of the reasons for overweight is the lack of knowledge that many have about just what is in that processed food that they are eating.

I actually used to eat a daily diet consisting of only processed food, it tastes great after all! What I began learning in 2004 though, is that whole foods taste awesome, too. You just need to do a little of your own cooking, and use some spices. ;)

I like that you are taking your own weight loss goals "5 pounds at a time". It makes it much more doable when you break it down into those small goals. It's also very motivating if you reward yourself for each milestone. :)

Thanks again Catherine, I look forward to reading about your progress, You Can Do It!! :)

All the best,

JoLynn

Recipe for Weight Loss -- Searching the Dieting, Nutrition, and Healthy Eating Blogs.

I don’t know about you, but even though I know exactly what to eat and what not to eat, I still eat a bunch of stuff I know I shouldn’t. Since I really want to lose a few pounds, I recently started blogging once a week on my struggles and desires to “Take it Five Pounds at a Time“. I need all the motivation I can get with this venture to lose weight and eat healthy, so I looked through the BlogHer Blogrolls for some inspiration, and found a lot of it. For those of you also struggling with weight issues, I hope you can find some inspiration and ideas from these great blogs.

Join me in taking a look at some of the BlogHers blogging on diet and nutrition, I am going to introduce you to a dozen or so in this post. I also encourage you to check out the Health and Wellness BlogRoll where you can find many other great blogs.

Basil & Spice — Kelly (see her post on the introduction forum) like most of us struggles with the desire to eat delicious foods while trying to keep her weight down. She is a reviewer of books on diet, nutrition, health, and fitness - A recent post has Kelly reviewing Secrets of a Former Fat Girl.

Anna and Heather have a blog called Middle Age Shed, they say they are two fat ladies on a journey to losing 84lbs - with a great podcast along with it. I found a recent post on Carnival of Diet Tips, it has a lot of great information.

Here’s an interesting one - Livingrainbowcolor has beaten her binge eating disorder, now she’s using non-diet techniques to lose excess weight. Fourty pounds lost so far using Intuitive Eating. "What you put in your head is more important than what you put in your mouth."

Three Fats and a Skinny — 4 friends. Together they total over 800lbs. Diabetes & heart disease runs in their families. They want to get healthy. But they never seem to be able to stay motivated. Tune into their clever quips, philosophical ramblings, fleeting bursts of inspiration and their joint struggle to get to the title of “4 Skinnys and a String Bikini.”

The Fit Shack - JoLynn Braley is passionate about achieving and maintaining optimum health. After struggling with weight and food issues practically her entire life, she is intent on mastering these issues now, while at the same time, passing on to others the information and experiences she has gained.

The Diet Pulpit — We may not take ourselves too seriously around here, but we are serious about our work and strive to do our best to bring a light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek perspective to the otherwise drudgery of dieting and the quest for a healthier lifestyle, with witty humor and informative tidbits, that are (we hope) entertaining and useful to our readers.

Joanna’s Food — Delicious, quick, easy heart-healthy food, low in cholesterol, high in taste. The shock of a heart attack has jolted her into new eating habits - this blog is how she is attempting to eat delicious and interesting food which doesn’t take hours to prepare, but which cuts out most processed food and most saturated fat.

Melanie is a dietitian and has a blog called Dietriffic — She says...It’s our responsibility to look after our own health and I fully believe that good nutrition is the basis for good health! I hope you will continue to visit my site and take the first vital steps to better health and well-being.
