Horace at To Delight and to Instruct has posted a call for contributions to a virtual anthology of advice about graduate school. The response has been terrific, with people writing new posts and drawing new attention to older ones.

Much of the advice is discouraging. Lumpenprofessoriat explains why:

Just as women who are pregnant can rely on friends and strangers to inundate them with every imaginable horror story concerning labor and delivery, so new graduate students can expect to hear every horror story about graduate school. My apologies in advance for scaring any prospective grad students.
