Time for Wimbledon and Red Underpants

I like tennis. I know a lot of people think it is boring to watch tennis on television, but I enjoy it. The U.S. Open is okay, and so are the French and Australian Opens, but my favorite is Wimbledon. Maybe it is because it was the first tennis tournament that I watched when I was younger, or maybe it just has more history and class.

Or maybe the press will go and spend more time talking about what the female tennis players are wearing, or how hot Maria Sharapova is.

I suppose for the rest of Wimbledon I'm just going to come in every morning and report to everyone how irritating it is that the big news of the day is what female tennis player was wearing what at their last match. Yesterday it was Maria Sharapova's swan-like dress, and today it's Tatiana Golovin's red knickers. If we're lucky, maybe tomorrow we'll get to talk about what brand of sports bra Nicole Pratt wears!!

It's f***ing ridiculous that press are too busy drooling over themselves to actually talk to Golovin about her tennis skills. The Herald Tribune reports that after her Tatiana Golovin was surprised that after beating Hsieh Su-wei of Taiwan... she was immediately bombarded with questions about her knickers...

She isn't kidding. I was searching for blog posts on Wimbledon and I was overrun with stories about Tatiana Golovin's underthings.

Look - The Herald, Sports Column Blog , even Tennis.com.au have Golovin's underpants as an entire post.

At least Kathy from Operation Doubles is actually commenting on the actual game and the importance of the grass court:

The defending Champion, Amelie Muresmo of France, said afterwards that she feels better playing here - as the defending champion on grass at Wimbledon - than she did in France.

I think it's more than the surface and the confidence that comes of winning the championship before. I think there's much less pressure on her when she's not carrying the dreams of the French fans for a French woman to win the French Open.
