I think it was the timing that shocked me the most...Only hours after a judge made a decision to send him to jail. Although in retrospect, you're right there really was no doubt. I have another word - audacity.

I am angry and disappointed, but not the least bit surprised--or, rather, I'm surprised that the President had the restraint to simply commute the sentence rather than pardoning Libby outright. I was fully prepared for a pardon, honestly.

I literally walk into my house after a SEVEN hour drive and this is the first bit of information that my brother decides to tell me. Not "Hey, how was DC?" or "Hey, did you get me those voltage adapters I asked for?" But "Did you hear about Scooter Libby???"

If you can't tell; I'm kinda livid about this whole thing.

This was shocking. I have to wonder if this happening so soon after the judge ordered Libby to jail, could have anything to do with Libby possibly threatening to spill the beans if he went to jail?

CNN reports President Bush has commuted the prison term of former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, facing 30 months in prison after a federal court convicted him of perjury, obstruction of justice and lying to investigators.
The Mahablog writes, "I understand the White House decided Scooterâ€™s sentence was 'excessive.'

The Poor Man points out that Bush felt differently when he was governor of Texas.

'Bush, on overturning on the deeply-held philosophy with which he presided over 152 executions in Texas:

I donâ€™t believe my role [as governor] is to replace the verdict of a jury with my own, unless there are new facts or evidence of which a jury was unaware, or evidence that the trial was somehow unfair.

Yeah, I bet some of those juries were actually awake."

Cynthia's first timesink! says, "The cynical part of me (which has grown larger) says that W commuting Scooter Libby's sentence is just part of following their mutual boss's will."
