I think that the top and bottom of the outfit are adorable, but the leggings kill me and make me think of people who are afraid to show of untan leggs. SHOW THE LEGS! IT IS OK!

Everyday chic: Nancy Mernit Soriano

I want to dispel three common misconceptions about getting dressed:

1. "Stylish" is synonymous with "expensive."

2. "Comfortable" and "fashionable" are mutually exclusive terms.

3. "Personal style" is an oxymoron.

Not ONE of those things is true. Inexpensive clothes CAN be stylish, comfortable clothes CAN look terrific, and personal style is alive and well and hanging out at BlogHer '07, where I spent three days stopping complete strangers to ask where they got their shoes. All for you, of course.

Nancy Mernit Soriano caught my eye because her whole look was fantastic. Nancy is Editor-in-Chief of Country Living magazine; she was wearing a fantastic coat from H&M over a jersey dress and leggings. She had finished the outfit with a funky necklace and some great pointy-toed flats.

I love Nancy's entire outfit, but it was the coat that caught my eye. The cut and color are incredibly flattering, and it gives her very casual outfit a polished look. This is a piece that she can wear with a whole range of outfits, and that she could dress up or down. And she told the best story about the coat: she wore it to a local antiques market recently, and was stopped by a woman who asked if it was made by Narciso Rodriguez. Nancy said no, and the woman nodded and said, "Did you pay a dollar for it?" Something like that, Nancy told her.

Nancy's look is comfortable and polished and individual, and it proves that being chic doesn't mean sacrificing your wallet or your personality. Thanks to Nancy for being such a good sport, and such a stylish dresser.
