On the big screen, Homer is bigger and balder than ever. It does sorta play like one long episode but nevertheless, is it an amazing feat of animation.

The public's evident love and support of The Simpson's is the kind of thing that restores my faith in humanity. It is the most honest thing on television.

The Simpsons Movie – I’m Already Giggling

I’ve been a fan of The Simpsons since the very first season, so I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of The Simpsons Movie. I’ve seen a lot of movies this summer, but very few of them were able to make me snort out loud, just on the strength of the previews.

And movies that make me snort when I laugh? Those are my favorite kinds. Take Blades of Glory, for example. When I settled into my seat on my flight to Chicago a few weeks ago, I was delighted to find that our in-flight movie was Blades of Glory. From my very first post here on BlogHer, I’ve been meaning to see it. Our flight was bumpy, yet all around me, passengers were grinning up at their video screens. At a few key moments in the movie, a couple of passengers up ahead were laughing and high-fiving each other over the crude humor. It made the hours pass quickly, and left me relaxed and days later, sent a chuckle burbling up from my chest when I thought about certain scenes.

And that, my friends, is entertainment. After the busy week I’ve had, I could use some laughter. And that is why I have such high hopes for The Simpsons Movie.

Stardust, over at Stardust Musings and Thoughts for the FreeThinker is another long-time fan:

My husband and I went to see The Simpson Movie yesterday and it was hilarious. It was the first movie in a long while where the entire audience was laughing out loud. I was also surprised to see so many children in the audience, considering how the film makes fun of everything from religion, different ethnic stereotypes, environmentalists and the EPA, government and human beings in general.

Denise at Choking on Popcorn recommends staying through the credits:

Spider pig, you ask? Yes well, it seems that if he hasn’t done enough bizarre things already, Homer has gotten himself a pet pig. I don’t want to spoil anything, because The Simpsons Movie (2007) is full of surprises, but one pig leads to ecological disaster and then, well, comedy ensues. There are laughs from start to finish and several of them are things they simply could never do on TV (ergo the PG-13 rating). My one tip is that if you go see it, stay for all the credits to roll at the end. Groening has inserted little animated extras that appear unexpectedly so just when you think it’s over, it’s not over.

See? This movie has my name written all over it. After amusing myself by making my own Simpson’s character, I’m counting the hours until I can sneak off to the theater. I’m leaving the kids at home for this one. Are you planning on seeing The Simpsons Movie? What is on your weekend viewing agenda?
