I honestly don't visit that many pet photo gallery pages. I've definitely seen some in my travels, though. Like you, I get most of my pet photo fix from Flickr. Still - there are some other sites out there that update frequently. Here are a couple I can think of off the top of my head:

Dogster's "For the Love of Dog Blog
and Catster, too, have photos and personal blogs for cats, dogs, and their people.

And let us not forget Stuff on my Cat! Too funny. (The occasional LOLZ, even...)

And because I'm thoroughly, unapologetically biased, here's a Boston Terrier photoblog. ; )

Anyone else? I think I'll update this topic in a post fairly soon, and if I run across any gems before that I'll add them to the blogroll. Check back and see.

But I wanted to see just what I'd get if I made it as general as possible - therefore, I went with "pets". The things you can find through Technorati and Google Blog Search (and others that I don't frequently use) are amazing. Of course there's also a lot of junk to wade through - another good reason to limit the search and make it very specific to what you're interested in.

I recently saw a poodle with a pink mohawk - also not a lie. ; ) Thanks for dropping by!

I never thought of doing just a search of blogs...I guess I can't call my dog silly and wonder where she got it from anymore. With her doggie daddy having a blond mohawk (no lie) and me losing brain cells by the second, apparenty she comes by it honestly! :p

ISO Pet Blogs - Where to Find the Best News Online

I tried, oh how I tried, but no specific topic in pet news particularly grabbed me this week. Everything I considered seemed oh-so-same-old-same-old, and that just wouldn't do. The good thing is that while doing some research and grasping for a story that would rock your pet-related world, there are a number of news sources to turn to in the pet blogosphere. So it occurred to me that just this once, those sources - and the blogs I find there - could be the story themselves.

First of all, like Stephen Colbert and Santa Claus, "Pets" can be your Twitter friend, and I'll guarantee that they update more frequently than those other two celebrity slackers. Updates here, according to the link in the profile, come from the Petosphere site, a collection of frequently updated pet news. The Twitter updates are reliably interesting and well-sourced (although not necessarily bloggy), on topics as varied as whether Seattle residents can have goats as pets and how to deal with a dog's depression when a child leaves for college.

Technorati, the workhorse of blog topic searches, had almost 450,000 hits in response to one "pets" query. Recent pet posts of note included Cecile Weekly's definite answer to who should win the "dog vs. cat" wars. Technorati also turned up Susan Fiedler's Cat-a-Blog post about how best to buy and safely store pet food, especially of the feline variety.

I admit that Google Blog Search
is my new favorite tool for finding posts on any topic. This search engine turned up almost 23 millions hits in response to the "pets" query, and I just seem to find what I want and need, faster, here. This included Bethany Sanders's post at AOL Body about excess fat as a health risk for pets, and Michelle Trantina's post at My Yoga Online about "greening your pet". Here's one hint:

2. Give them sustainable goods

Your furry friends can get in on some saving-the-planet goodness, too—and have plenty of fun—with toys made from recycled materials or sustainable fibers (sans herbicides or pesticides) such as hemp. A hemp collar (with matching leash) is a great accessory. These days, you can even get pet beds made with organic cotton or even recycled PET bottles.

Good old Google also turned up Ricki Widlak at the Super Cool Pets Blog, who gives loads of information about pet apparel, health and safety, travel, media, and a number of other topics.

It's safe to say that there's no shortage of pet news and information online, especially in blogs. There's a certain art to separating the kibble from the chaff, as it were - but with a little time and care, you can find the gems (and maybe even write them yourself.)
