Thank you for the write up Kalyn. I always feel like the end of the month is like Christmas morning when we all get to open up our presents. I am thankful to Ivonne and Lisa for managing the group with such flair and pizzaz!

Lovely write-up Kalyn, you have captured the spirit of the Daring Bakers! It's so much fun to take part in the challenges (especially for someone who isn't exactly a "sweet" baker!). For me the interaction and the "alliances" is what this group is about, sharing laughs, fun and tips without boundaries. Not to mention reading a recipe and following it exactly, now that's a challenge! Thanks for the mention!

I am not a baker but I am a Daring Baker

I joined daring baker because I don't bake. My 3 year old daughter LOVES to bake and I thought that if I did something like the daring baker it would force me to bake with her at least once a month and it would teach me to bake better.

We have already started the October challenge and are having so much fun with it and we very much enjoyed the September challenge. For not being a baker I am loving this and I would encourage anyone to try it.

Thank you Daring Baker for bringing my family closer together not only at the table but at the oven too.

Pille, Great photo of the cinnamon rolls! Glad you liked seeing it.

Lis, I am working up my courage. And I will definitely post about it. I think the first recipe I'll try is the one with white whole wheat flour from 101 Cookbooks. But I also have the Bob's Red Mill Baking Book which has some recipes that sound wonderful with whole wheat flour. And most of them are even South Beach Diet friendly, so I need to get baking!

Would You Dare to be a Daring Baker?

An idea that started as a fun collaboration between food blogging buddies has spread like wildfire, and now the Daring Bakers has more than 90 members. Each month one member picks a recipe, then dares the others to try it and post the results on their food blog for all the world to see. What makes it fun is that the recipes are so impressive, famous, challenging, or unusual, and Daring Bakers must stick to the recipe unless variations are allowed by that month's host.

September's project seemed like it was more manageable than some, but before we talk about that, first a bit of DB history. In November of 2006 Ivonne of Cream Puffs in Venice and Lis of La Mia Cucina decided to challenge themselves by baking pretzels using the same recipe. Then a few more food bloggers joined them in December, when they made biscotti. Each month the group grew, until it was decided that the group must have a name, and the Daring Bakers were born. Now the group is so large that they have a blog just to hold the blogroll of Daring Bakers, and when it gets close to the end of the month, when the challenge for each month must be completed, you'll see the Daring Bakers logos and the creation-of-the-month popping up on food blogs everywhere.

For September's Daring Baker challenge, Pip in the City had decreed that everyone must make cinnamon rolls or sticky buns using the recipe she chose from The Bread Baker's Apprentice. Marce also showed off her own efforts in that post with some mouth-watering photos.

I saw outstandingly-sticky looking creations everywhere I looked this week, like Cinnamon Sticky Buns at A Cat in the Kitchen, Butter-Topped Cinnamon Rolls at A Fridge Full of Food, Buns in the Oven at Alpineberry, gorgeous Cinnamon Rolls and Sticky Buns (both!) at Tartelette, Cinnamon Rolls at Dessert First, and Sticky Cinnamon Buns at What's For Lunch Honey.

Some of the Daring Bakers have formed alliances to get them through the challenge each month. This time Tanna from My Kitchen in Half Cups puts her dough in the dishwasher so she could get it to rise quickly enough to keep up with Ilva in Italy and Karen in the Netherlands. It all worked out and if you check those links you can see that they all had delicious looking results.

Daring Bakers co-founder Ivonne may win the prize this time though for most creative post, with her poetry recounting of A Daring Bakers Ode to Buns.

They bake, they eat delicious baked goods, everyone posts about it, and then they all having fun reading about how the others fared in following the recipe. It's easy to see why the number of Daring Bakers is growing every month. Sounds like a recipe for a very good time!
