Yep, I read my previous post and then thought about the sounds of clucking in my head.

For the record I commit to trying to 30 posts, not 30 videos. Unless you want to see me color my hair with a toothbrush or something. It could happen. But seriously, I'm going to need a padded room by Thanksgiving.

I'd have a really, really hard time with not editing. REALLY hard time. It just goes against everything that I am even though I really do see the value in it (I tend to over edit to the point where I just delete EVERYTHING).

I find it easy (well easier) to post everyday on my themed blog but on the other I find it decidedly more difficult.

I'm doing my second NaNo and

I'm doing my second NaNo and my first NaBlo. I had a lot of fun writing a "novel" (ironic air quote required) last year. It really frees you up to write and not worry about editing when you have to do so at such a frantic pace. I am chronic over-editor/over-analyzer; I actually need something like NaNo.

I don't really expect to win this year, mostly because my "writin," computer is dying and I don't relish typing this thing up on my laptop. Other than that, the writing or blogging everyday is pretty easy for me. I write in little short bursts anyway, which is probably a good NaNo strategy.

Well first, I fell all special having part of one of my blog posts mentioned!!

Second, I think NaBlo is a good way to blogeract (my word for interacting with other blogs) and to discover new blogs as well; like my list of blogs I read daily isn't long enough already!

I made myself a list of subjects I could / would write about in case of blogblock; so if I get scared I am prepared.

And really this is the best month for NaBlo... I give thanks for blogs!

And truth be told, as much as I love it (and I so very much do) I tend to not watch every day. There's something satisfying about hoarding them and then watching a whole bunch at once. :)

I signed up for NaBlo...I like the new site Eden is using. I had a lot of fun with it last year so sure, I'll try it again. Thinking maybe a photo a day or some new thing to spice things up around the old homestead. Friday music blogging? Another weekly something or the other? I've been a little sick of the sound of my own blogging voice, so maybe this'll keep things going on a better track.

NaVloPoMo - National Videoblog Posting Month

In the spirit of leaving no one behind the vloggers have jumped into the mix. The idea is to keep it simple but produce video for 30 consecutive days. I'm struggling with once every other week.

Are you ready for NaNoWriMo & NaBloPoMo?

Get your fingers revving ladies! November is just around the corner and you know what that means don't you? A whole month full of lots and lots of writing! We're only a few days away from the start of NaBloPoMo and NaNoWriMo! Confession: I have have never participated in either. To be perfectly honest NaNoWriMo scares the pants off me.

NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, started in 1999. The goal is that between November 1 and November 30 you will write a novel - a 50,000 word novel! That's approximately 1666 word per day! My reaction to this? Scary. Daunting. But exciting. Part of my problem is that I'm convinced I'd hate everything I'd write, or that I'd write myself into a corner...or...or...any other of the ever increasing or's that pop into my head when I think about this. But that's part of point of NaNoWriMo. It's supposed to be a bit scary. And you aren't supposed to love everything you write. At least according to their about page.

Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that's a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.

Again, scary and exciting. It kind of makes me think of a book I read as a kid (I know, you are shocked). I believe it was called Serendipity Summer (my sincere apologies if I have the title wrong, my search skills are failing me and I haven't seen the book since I was at least 14). It was about the girl and her younger brother and the son of an out of town friend who was staying with them for the summer (who was of course the girls age and cute). Their parents had a plan for them - to discover the city (New York of course), to do some educational activities, and, hopefully, to discover something about themselves. The parents had dubbed it the Serendipity Summer. Of course, the younger brother was the smart one and had to explain what serendipity was to the others. Obviously the description stuck with me. He described it as falling into a pile of poop and discovering a unicorn (gee, I wonder why that stuck with my ten year old self...) - finding the wonderful in unexpected places. Why does NaNoWriMo make me think of that book? Because it's about putting out a bunch of words, expecting a lot of them to be crap, but maybe finding something wonderful.

Of course, I'm still not going to do it. I'm pretty consistent in being a chicken. Luckily the world, and the blogosphere, is made up of women braver than I. And I really want to read some of the stories. Take The Musings of Wendy Withers. She's planning to write zombie chick-lit! COOL!!!!

And of course there are people who wonder about their sanity simply because they'd decided to join. Eloise by the Book Piles is one of those people.

This year I have gone similarly mad, but am feeling very excited about it. I have had an idea for a story rattling around my head for the past couple of months, which has been very irritating as it has distracted me from the other things I'm trying to write.

Hmm exorcists and zombies...I'm seeing a theme here.

If you are like me and are too chicken to join in NaNoWriMo there is another option for you in November. A bloggy option. That option is NaBloPoMo. NaBloPoMo is a simple concept - you have to post on your blog every day for a month. EVERY SINGLE DAY. Hey my American friends, that means Thanksgiving Day too - no time off for holidays or travelling. Please note that I said it was a simple concept, not that it would be easy (despite the fact that I know many bloggers who do this already). It's definitely doable (again I know this because I know bloggers who do this already). Of course I'm sure I'd be reduced to a few days of pooterish posts in which I make various lists (most likely of the books that are on my to be read pile), tell an amusing-only-to-me post about my cat, or if I really can't think of anything much to say, post videos of old Sesame Street episodes starring Kermit the Frog and the Cookie Monster (best duo in the history of that show). I still haven't firmly decided if I'm going to participate this year, after all, I have a few more days to decide and I'm nothing if not a procrastinator.

I will leave you as I go off to ponder this whole crazy idea of a month of writing (in all its forms) with some NaBloPoMo participants and a few snippets of their writing.

At A Wall of Fish, who, by the way, is doing both NaBloPoMo and NaNoWriMo, I found yet another zombie reference (see, I told you, it's a theme).

I may need to rethink the whole “post in the blog when I wake up” thing though. I’m feeling kind of zombified at the moment, and I mean the Night of the Living Dead type zombie, not the 28 Days Later type. Maybe if I ate some brains, I’d be a little better.

Blood, Guts, & Melodies is in for an intense month with Med-Surg clinicals AND NaBloPoMo.

The intensity of the next month is starting to sink in a little. I think I might be a little scared, but I know it's going to be over before I know it.

I started blogging after the craziest 7 months of my life. I had moved from a small town in central British Columbia, Canada to Orange County in California, I was enthralled with everything, the people, their lives, the drama!! After 3 full months there the friend I moved it with and I decided it would be a hoot to move to Oklahoma (seriously it was a really big and really good bag of weed), and so we did! Within 2 months I was hospitalized in the ICU with a serious lung infection and was told that I could honestly die, that my blood had gone septic.
