lol! I really can't stand most eggnog, but awhile back came across this recipe via. Family Fun: 'tis AMAZING! http://jas.familyfun.go.com/recipefinder/display?id=40582

Eggs-travagant Nog
RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
6 egg yolks
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 cups milk
l cup half and half (or milk, for lighter nog)
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 pint superpremium vanilla ice cream

1. Whisk together the egg yolks, sugar, and nutmeg in a large bowl.
2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, heat the milk until it steams.
3. Pour some of the hot milk over the egg mixture and whisk (this keeps the eggs from scrambling), then scrape this egg mixture into the saucepan with the rest of the milk and cook over medium-low heat, whisking constantly, until it thickens a bit, about 10 minutes (or reads 165° to 175° on a candy thermometer).
4. Remove from the heat and stir in the half and half and vanilla extract, then pour the mixture through a strainer into a clean bowl.
5. Add the ice cream, and stir until melted. Cover and chill at least 1 hour, then stir before serving. Garnish with nutmeg. Makes 12 servings.

Real Life Mothering!

I have to say, one of the greatest benefits of having a backyard full of chickens is that we got fresh eggs today to make eggnog from scratch..... and, done that way, it's not nearly as bad..... in a whole batch, that "fed" 9 people, i used 8 eggs and 1/2 a gallon of whole milk from "our" cows.... that breaks down to an egg and a glass of milk. and when you whip the whites separately, it's all light and fluffy..... good stuff. yeah, the sugar and rum throw things off a bit but it's christmas....

ho ho ho ho. no hum. :)
Too Much Eggnog?

It's Christmas Eve, and for many people that means it's time to break out the eggnog. I'm finding it a little hard to concentrate right now, because all the people in my house happen to be indulging in this particular holiday tradition. I'm also dodging an early Christmas gift of my son's (a remote controlled helicopter), that is whizzing by my head.

Is eggnog part of your holiday celebration? If so, here are a few things you might want to know.

If you're trying to stay fit for the holidays, you might want to avoid the eggnog.

Sugary fruit punches laced with rum and eggnog that should really just be called a saturated-fat bomb. One cup of eggnog contains over 11 g. of saturated fat, as well as 343 calories.

It appears even Frosty the Snowman had a bit too much eggnog, have you? Mommy off the Record has...

I would post more, but I've got a naughtini hangover and really must get back to bed for a while.

I will be back in a few days, after I've recovered from the present-opening, cookie-eating, eggnog-downing extravaganza that is about to occur very soon.

Here are some tips for avoiding the eggnog hangover.

And just for fun...

Since it's also the political season...Which candidate would you want to have eggnog with?

Well that's it, short and sweet (like eggnog). I hope you have a Merry Christmas.
