Canada's Medical System....the image is becoming tarnished

Last night and today a very sad story was reported on the local news.
A grief stricken woman stood before a press conference to tell how she lost her baby.

She had been leaking amniotic fluid and called her clinic repeatedly for advice. She was told not to worry.

When she went into labour..no heartbeat was detected. The health authority is not commenting on what happened.

When I read this my heart just ached for the woman.

I lost mine baby before Christmas. I was 26 weeks along.

My Ob/Gyn works out of the same hospital. I have had 'issues' with my treatment there too.
They were also reported as having the highest death rate in lower mainland hospitals.

Not good.

Like her, I felt that my concerns and my instincts were not heard. That science and technology have now totally overwhelmed women and their reproductive processes can cause such awful awful sad events.

I contacted the MLA (a member of our political opposition party for our provincial government) who had put together the press conference to thank him for bringing this to the publics attention.

He has requested to speak to me about my feelings on the subject. I am flattered. I will let you know how this goes.

I do not think that any of the medical people in her case, or mine, for that fact, were negligent to the point of law suits, I do think that a mixture of over confidence and over work and the fact that good listening skills no longer exist was probably at the root of this sad event and many others.

I think Doctors have to start realizing again that with any medical problem, it is OUR bodies ...and our bodies do their darndest to tell us that SOMETHING IS WRONG.

I think we need to remind our medical personal about this. That they are dealing in human beings.....that our problems have nothing to do with their busy schedules or overbookings.

The human body should come first.
