I did get some photos and a little video - sadly, the best one and most interesting? I had my finger on the pause button. Go ahead laugh - I'm heading out to get the Flip today or tomorrow so that I don't have this problem on Tues. when I'll be trying to video around polling places etc. I'll also be in the WKYC/NBC affiliate station helping cover the primary too and will liveblog and video from there.

Like John McEnroe said - it's always the equipment. :)

Sports analogies cheapen the discussion

Jill, great interview here -- but so disappointing to see a local political reporter talking about the candidates "A game" and saying that "like most sporting events" debates don't live up to their billing. You know, with our budget in disarray and U.S. troops in harm's way, can we do away with the sporting analogies? Let's raise the tone of the debate, not cheapen it. This is not a game.

I DO like your response Jill - subtle, but right on.

If you go to the picture on flickr and click the text above that says "all sizes". Then, select "small" and the embed code will appear beneath the photo. Just copy/paste that. It will be fastest and easiest for you, I think.

(what was wrong was you weren't linking directly to the image but to the page that had the image --- the url in the img src tag has to have .jpg at the end, if the url you're using doesn't have that then you still haven't drilled down to the right spot.)

Ohio debate preview: 8-12 inches of snow will not stop this BlogHer!

There are so many ways to come at this debate coverage thing, not to mention the debate itself. But since this is BlogHer, I can share all the angles you'd see if you were in Cleveland, Ohio right now!

1. Mother of three going wild trying to get the family ready for her absence through the night. What night makes this night different from all other nights? Oh - I don't know - could it be...the snow?

Or maybe it's that two of my three kids have PIANO RECITALS tonight!? That I will be missing. :(

Or maybe it's the shlepping the third one to his volunteer work right after school in time to make it downtown to get my media credential?

2. Blogger/freelance journalist with recently treated herniated disk trying to remember, from all the Post-it Notes scattered throughout her house, all the flotsam and jetsam she needs to bring to the debtate:

-letter from Newsweek to pick up the credential
-digital camera
-laptop
-pen and paper for while I'm sitting in the audience - because I won a ticket to sit in the debate!
-Celebrex - maybe even painkillers? No - you don't want too loopy reporting now do you?
-iPod with Micromemo to do some audio recording
-media logistics info and maps from Cleveland State
-cellphone and numbers of all fellow bloggers
-GLASSES! so I can see what I'm writing, hmm, well, maybe not being able to do that would be fun too

3. Superduperuber political junkie surfing speedily through the latest polls and posts to find out what's going on around the state. I'm always afraid I'll miss something important!

Hoohah. Big sigh. IT IS BUSY - mostly in my mind at the moment, but very soon, all around me.

What do you need to know about the debate?

The Plain Dealer has this nifty post up that has good information in it.

The latest polls from Real Clear Politics are here for national and here for Ohio.

On the ground? The feel is a very, very VERY serious battle. And I do mean battle. Emails, flyers, phone calls, rallies - everything is being thrown out by everyone.

The one tilt? Obama online is more 21st century, Clinton is more old-time political machinery.

Which will win out?

We'll know in a week!

Stay tuned for more, later this afternoon, as I go to the ground at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland to cover from the media areas AND the audience!
