Creative Writing/ Poetry Section

A Creative Writing/ Poetry section is a great idea. Here's a poem to start off.

The Basket Maker

Beside a stream
you find your black ash tree
Ten foot butt
twelve inches girth
Too wide to touch
fingertips
No knots to blemish
a year’s growth

You pound
with an ax handle
ten days
eight hours a day

The black ash
uncoils
Some rings
plump on winter snow
Some rings
tendrils
joined to last year

With a drawknife
you cut away
the bad
Sort splints
by thickness
A coarse earlywood
satin latewood layer
Two textures
rubbed
back and forth
between your palms

In the barn
you weave
crisscrossing
Holding a basket
with your thighs
you cross a greenwood rim
to hold your years in place

I would love to see a creative writing / poetry section. It would be nice to read others poems / shorts. I would contribute to the section if it were created. It's a great idea luckywhitegirl!

Cheers!

poetry eh?

I'd be willing do donate my lines on here. I'm a really crappy poet though. Probably something that could be used in kids books. Better yet, I'm more like a Shel Silverstein poet. Poet on acid.
