And say that you could use it as a change to refocus on your existing challenges.

Cheat????

I'm shocked! I take back every thing I ever said about wanting one of my kids to marry you. Boo!

OK I'll think about a way to cheat on my challenge(s). Though I've decided to sort of postpone working on the from the stacks challenge until we start packing and moving. I figure I won't have library access for a few months so I'll read those then - and I'm focusing on library books on my YA challenge first.

You could cheat

And double up your challenges. Or you could do a different take on your current challenges and decide that over the next few months you are going to read five books that fall under your existing reading challenges and are books that you already own. There are ways to work it. :)

I cannot do another reading challenge. I have two going and my life is getting more insane with each passing day. I have to just say no to challenges. I do. I swear. Someone help me say no.

Sheesh.

(And by the way, I'm laughing at you "bolding it and everything" that's the kind of thing I do. You know that though, probably.

Spring Reading Check-In and Challenges

I was cruising around BlogHer the other day and happened upon MC's spring reading list. Wait a minute? It's really almost spring? I mean, I know that I've complained that this winter is unending (repeatedly) but it's really almost spring? Seriously? A new season it a good time to reassess any reading goals you made at the beginning of the year or set some new ones.

I look around the blogosphere showed some folks taking stock of their reading goals, such as at Babbling Book Reviews where Christina is taking in part in nine challenges. And Manders set some March reading goals.

Seasonal Plume weighs at her blog with some comments on reading challenges.

I have to admit, being on challenges adds a bit of motivation for me personally, mostly because I love seeing that progress bar fill up slowly. It tells me where I am, and how I’m doing… not to mention it’s forcing me to keep reading a book even if before I’d have decided to leave it “for a while”… and then I invariably end up not reading for a while, because I keep thinking, “but I’m reading something else right now!”

With a new seasons springs new reading challenges such as Rock Creek Rumblings' Spring Reading Challenge.

This is a challenge to help us all read more--intentional reading, we like to call it. I find that I read more (and better) if I challenge myself to a list, and others apparently have found this beneficial as well.

I know that I find it difficult to limit myself to a set list of books, which may be why I can never seem to finish a challenge, and is why I like this approach for the Spring Reading Challenge from Becky's Book Reviews. She gave herself a nice long list and wants to read 8 of the books from the list. She also maintains a separate blog called Becky's Challenges and uses it to set monthly reading goals.

Callapidder Days is also hosting a spring reading challenge - the Spring Reading Thing.

Have you fallen behind on your To-Be-Read list? Do you have five books that you've started but haven't finished? Have you been meaning to get around to that great book your friend recommended but just haven't done it yet? Do you love to read and to find out what everyone else is reading? Then this challenge is for you!

These challenges sound just like what I need to get myself back on track with reading. I said back in that 2008 reading challenges post I would finish my A-Z and Summer 2006 (yes, that says 2006!) challenges I signed up for but did not finish. I bolded it and everything. And now I don't want to say that I did nothing as I did scratch one book off that list. Yep, a whole one! Not, I will readily admit, the most inspiring progress. I need to reapply myself.

How's everyone doing with their reading challenges and goals so far this year?

Contributing Editor Sassymonkey blogs at Sassymonkey and Sassymonkey Reads.
