I'm sorry, I guess I'm not communicating clearly about where I'm coming from, which is that the real story, to me, is how the press jumps on these little things that I find so stupid, or makes giant stories where there aren't even stories and it's all just really gross to me.

I just find a he said/she said over who criticized the war first completely silly. Like I said, I honestly don't care. But it is lame that she was incorrect in her assertion.

At the same time, I don't see the press jumping on Obama or McCain for every single little thing, the way they do with Hillary. So that's my point.

I could care less who criticized Iraq first. Obviously, Hillary thought it was her. I guess technically it wasn't. WHATEVER. I agree, let's get some clear explanation of plans going forward from all three.

Morra was talking about Clinton's claim about her record on Iraq, and your pointer is about her reference to a story about a woman who died because of the problems with our health care system. What am I missing?

Morra -- particularly as the Petraeus hearings are going on now, I think you are exactly right to say that all three would-be presidents need to clearly explain how they would lead on Iraq.

I am so glad to know that I'm not the only person that is getting sick and tired of the way Clinton has been misrepresenting not only her own actions but also those of Obama. It's no wonder she is behind in the polls! It is insulting to me that she would think that we (the voting public) would believe anything she says at this point. Maybe I am naive, but I don't think Americans are that stupid, but apparently Senator Clinton does. Kudos to you for blogging about it!

Further, she did not quote any specifics whatsoever. It was the press who identified who she was talking about. You can read about Clinton's treatment by the press on Digby:

Ok, look. You can hate Clinton or love her, but this is the lowest form
of campaign journalism and it should be condemned. At this point the
story is said, over and over again,that Clinton told "untruths" or
"exaggerated" when the fact is that she repeated a story she heard from
a citizen and which, without knowing the name of the person, which she
didn't, could not be verified by her campaign. And why should it? The
sheriff told her this story on camera, it's completely believable
because every single day something like this happens multiple times
across the country, she used no names, accused nobody specifically and
didn't claim to have personal knowledge of the story. She repeated
something that was told to her. It's not a lie or an untruth or
fundamentally misleading in any way.

For me, the real story here is the terrifying and growing bias of our mainstream news.

I love that "criticizing" the war in Iraq passes for doing something leaderly. Hillary Clinton has falsely stated that, when Barack Obama joined her to serve in the US Senate in January 2005, she "criticized" the war in Iraq before Obama did. From ABC News:

Clinton on Saturday told Oregonians, "when Sen. Obama came to the
Senate he and I have voted exactly the same except for one vote. And
that happens to be the facts. We both voted against early deadlines. I
actually starting criticizing the war in Iraq before he did."

Turns out this is not true. But if it were true, it would be even more depressing. I sit around and criticize the war every day. In fact, I'm sure I criticized it before lots of other people did. But that doesn't make me a leader. It's like the immortal line in Working Girl, when Joan Cusack's character says to Melanie Griffith's Tess, "Sometimes I sing and dance around the house in my underwear. Doesn't make me Madonna. Never will."

Criticizing the war, no matter when it's been done, does not count as moving America towards a solution in Iraq. I know it's hard to believe, but Hillary, Barack, and John McCain all have day jobs in the Senate! Perhaps as our Democratic leaders the first two could use their bully pulpits to do something about Iraq.

Yeah, no. Ok. I'll go back to reading about Mark Penn. And here.
