A Great Idea

I would add the original "Producers," the original "Peyton Place," and it's sequel "Return To Peyton Place," "Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows," "To Sir With Love" and definitely "A Summer Place."

And if you could get them to watch something in black and white, I'd start with "All About Eve."

If I Could Bribe Them I'd Make Them Watch B/W Films

I'd make my mythical teens watch choice B/W movies from the 30-50s. It would be a fight and you might have to chain them to a chair but I'd want them to know about:

The movie version of Our Town, your would have to explain about the jacked up ending but it was well done.

Blackboard Jungle - The more things change the more they stay the same.

And one in color, That cheesy, melodramatic A Summer's Place. You might have to explain that the sex is implied and the at the time different cultural rules were in place. But it would be a coversation starter.

Good List

Thanks for commenting on my movie list posting. I thought of many movies that I had to leave off if I wanted to make it a top 10 list, Wayne's World being one of them.

Good list

Though I would never put Airplane on the list because I cannot stand that movie. And I never would have thought about Say Anything!

I might add Wayne's World.

and... umm, actually I could probably recommend 10 more!

10 Movies to Recommend to your Teens from Before they were Born

When I was a teenager, if I wanted to catch up
on an old movie I had to wait until it happened to be airing on one of
the few channels available on TV. Now, I can recommend old (relative to
their birth) movies to my teens, and thanks to DVDs and cable TV they
can watch them immediately.

There
are so many movies that I’ve enjoyed that I think today’s teenagers
would also enjoy. I think it is a great idea to recommend these to our
teens. Whether we watch the movies together with our teens or they
watch with friends and we just discuss after, a great bonding
experience has still been had.

In
my list you will notice that I left out older movies because my kids,
at least, tend to get turned off by movies that look very old and that
are completely off their pop culture radar. Also, before the
mid-seventies, there were many less movies made for the teenage
audience. I also didn’t include movies that you might have started
showing your kids when they were still children.

Here is my list of top 10 movies to recommend to your teens from before they were born (in no particular order):

1. The Princess Bride

2. Groundhogs Day

3. The Breakfast Club

4. Dirty Dancing

5. Say Anything

6. Airplane

7. Sixteen Candles

8. Dead Poets Society

9. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

10. Young Frankenstein

If
you have any suggestions to add to this list, please add them in the
comments. I am sure I am forgetting some excellent movies. If I get a
lot of comments I will do another updated posting.
