I am err a Neopets addict

Don't hold it against me.

I started playing when the little kids started talking about it and I haven't quit (even though they have.)

Neopets is still free and though the little kids don't really play it very much any more, they like to stand behind me as I feed my pet and do all of the free stuff and talk about what I'm doing (or should be doing) with me.

My kids like Webkinz too...

...but on this particular list I was trying to include only free things (should've made that clear). Since you have to buy a Webkinz to participate in the site, I didn't include it!

How about Webkinz

My 9 yr old daughter (and even her 10 yr old brother) likes playing with Webkinz. It's quite interesting, and in my opinion better than other on-line games available. Here's what a bloggy friend of mine wrote about it:

http://notesonanapkin.wordpress.com/2008/05/12/webkinz_world/

Thanks for listof links Shannon. We'll check them out :)

Summer Lifesaver!

Thanks for the list. Today is my son's last day of preschool and I've been wondering what to do. Swim lessons and parent-child workshops can only get you so far. This is great!

A List of Kid-Friendly Websites

School is almost out, and that means I'm eagerly in search of resources to keep my kids' brains fresh and stimulated. And also to keep them from destroying my house.

Of course, these days nearly every product marketed for children offers a site full of games. Some of the especially impressive ones include:

Hot Wheels
Lego
My Little Pony
Playmobil
Thomas the Train
Pepperidge Farm Goldfish
Noggin

With the gracious help of the web-savvy moms at my own blog, I've been compiling a really fun list of kid-friendly sites. There's something for nearly every age here! Here they are, in positively no particular order:

Cool Math 4 Kids
WolfQuest Role-play the life of a wolf in Yellowstone Park.
Primary Games
Rainforest Maths
A Plus Math
Alice.org This site helps teach kids computer programming.
IKnowThat.com
Starfall
Woody's Arcade (a mom set this blog up for her child, specifically to direct him to his favorite sites. What an amazing idea!)

Shamus Young (Same thing. Parents who set up sites just for their own kids. Brilliant.)
