I couldn't agree more about the online challenge tip!

I just started the 100 push up challenge today. I did the initial test last week and I'm on my way. I'm looking forward to being able to becoming stronger over the next 6 weeks, doing something completely different than what I normally do (run).

Thanks for the other ideas, too!

-- Felice

I like this post. I started my new journey this year and feel so much better for doing it. I encourage everyone to jump on the wagon and go for it.

Don't give up a good thing- stay on your fitness track

This year you made the very important decision to listen to your inner voice and get on the fitness track. That was the easy part. Staying there can prove to be very difficult, particularly, if you already lead a busy lifestyle. So, what's holding you back? Work, home, kids, school, who knows? What you do know is that your health is, once again, loosing priority to everything and everyone else around you. Don't get comfortable with the old routine again. It's time to have another conversation with your inner voice and get back on track.

Here are some ideas:

1. Start a fitness journal. Write down your daily activities (at home or the gym) and nutrition; write how you felt and how you slept on days when you exercised; take your measurements once a month or more frequently if you wish. Seeing results in writing is a great motivator.

2. Try Group Exercise. Personally, I prefer group exercise. It is the best way to stay motivated and it forces you to be accountable because the instructor and other participants get to know you and look forward to seeing you in class. You also learn new techniques and instructors keep the class full of energy.

3. Try Spinning or outdoor biking. Most gyms offer spinning classes. Ask around and then join in. Give it a few classes before you decided whether you like it or not. Spinning is an excellent cardiovascular class in which you can burn up to 600 calories in a one hour class. If this is not for you, then maybe outdoor biking is your cup of tea. Not only do you get your workout but you also get to enjoy the great outdoors.

4. Body sculpting. Lifting weights will not give you pects like a man. Unless you have an excess amount of testosterone, it is physically impossible. What you will get is a revved up metabolism, stronger muscles, and leaner body. More lean muscles=less fat. Is that something you can live with?

5. Pilates or Yoga. Pilates exercises place a high emphasis on the powerhouse, the core. The result, stronger abs and back, lean muscle mass, improved flexibility and improved posture. You will find similar results in Yoga but with the added benefits of mental balance, physical harmony and health.

6. Swimming. In a 30 minute session you will work just about every muscle in your body. This is an excellent workout, it’s quick, you can do this on your own, and at your own pace.

7. Want to stay in the same class? Grab heavier weights, extra risers for the step or if you do floor aerobics, you can finish your workout with a muscle conditioning routine either in the free-weight room or with machines.

8. Join and online challenge group. such as "Do Something New" 30 Day Challenge where team members will share their experiences, recipes, and workout routines. Here you will be made accountable to yourself, first of all, and to the team members by discussing your daily routines, your ups and downs. 100 Push Ups is a great way to test your fitness level and to really increase your push up potential. You don't have to do 100 push ups by the end of 6 weeks but it is very possible you'll be doing more than you do now, so give it a try.

There are many reasons why people exercise and many more why they should, i.e. to live a healthier, happier life, to be a good role model for the family, to feel good about yourself or maybe to avoid many of the diseases associated with poor nutrition and obesity. Do you remember why you listened to your inner voice the first time around? Exercise is one of those good things you want to keep at the top of your list. Priority number one = YOU!

Go break a sweat and don't forget your water ;-)

Stay well,

Spin Diva
