Everyone please join MOTHERS (www.MOTHERSOughtToHaveEqualRights.org)an economic initiative of NAMC (National Association of Mothers Centers) is working with MomsRising.com to demand a CEASEFIRE in the so-called Mommy Wars.

In conjunction, MOTHERS Book Bag, a book blog sister site to MOTHERS, is featuring Leslie Morgan Steiner's "Mommy Wars" book. No matter what people are saying about Steiner, the book is a great look at motherhood, and the choices we make (or are forced to make) by some fantastic writers.

Please sign the petition over at MomsRising.org and download some of the talking points and sample letters to the editor over at MOTHERS.

I love what they are trying to do here. It is about time that the Mommy Wars have a cease fire and all of the ridiculousness of it ends. (I mean really, who wants to war with each other? Who REALLY is?) Great link! I am definitely going to be following this one!

Mir, I could have guessed this was "the link" you were talking about! I came across this site yesterday, too. Funny coincidence. And I love it! Their message and their goals are awesome.

I'm going to be keeping my eye on these women and figuring out how I can contribute, too.

You know, for all of the negative publicity to come out of Steiner's book, I think some of it is being directed to point out how we can *do something* and that's positive.

Yesterday, blogher Mary Tsao brought us up to speed on some of the latest developments on the Mommy Wars front. Today I'm here to tell you that there's already talk of a truce.

Too good to be true? Gosh, I hope not! Hat tip to blogher Karen Walrond for her Blogging Baby post about MomsRising.org.

From their "About" page:

MomsRising hopes to ignite a major movement that brings real, necessary change to the lives of families.

Our website, MomsRising.org, is a site that enables moms (and all who have moms) to connect, learn, and amplify each other's voices as we find ways to truly support families.

Based on the MoveOn.org organizing model, MomsRising.org offers an easy entry to motherhood-focused activism and education.

Site founders Joan Blades and Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner are also co-authors of The Motherhood Manifesto: What American Moms Want - and What to do About It. I love that they're reaching beyond getting their book out there and really making this a matter of activism.

To that end, they're actually hosting a petition:

We are calling for a ceasefire in the so-called "Mommy Wars." All moms are in the same boat. We all need better family-friendly policies. It's time to focus on real problems in need of real solutions.

The petition, associated signatures and comments will be delivered on Ceasefire Day, May 15th, to the network bigwigs:

Let the heads of CBS, NBC, and ABC know it's time to move beyond the false rhetoric of the 'Mommy Wars,' because all moms are in the same boat. We all need better family-friendly policies. It's time to focus on real problems in need of real solutions.

Perhaps the very best part? Author Miriam Peskowitz (arguably the one who started the Mommy Wars buzz) reports that she's already a huge fan.

Folks, I think this may be the start of something wonderful.
