LOVE IS SENSIBLE

Love gives one a lot. That’s for sure. But a sense of direction – certainly! It is easy to find a direction if you get stuck by simply asking what would you would love to do. That’s what I do. It can sort out the higher road from the path of wishful yearnings. In the end the wiser choice satisfies the heart.

I also thought about love in regard to proportion. What is the right amount? What is the right balance? Again, love is very knowing and can differentiate between wasteful tendencies and useful ones. It is a good idea to obey the urgings of the higher one – that’s the knowing heart. Sensations come and go. You can eat a piece of cake or the whole cake or no cake. The secret is in knowing the right proportion for you. Love knows this, not the tongue.

Love, I believe, is also just because when given the opportunity it takes the advice of inner intelligence. And that intelligence has a sense of universal fairness. I saw a wonderful show on TV demonstrating this. It showed two chickens that were each given a task to do and then rewarded with several kernels of corn. The game was repeated many times. Then the programmer changed the reward for one of the chickens and gave it only one kernel. That chicken could see that the other one was still getting the full allotment of corn. This wasn’t fair. It wasn’t just, so she refused to participate. Love knows what is just. We all do.

So, I stick with this Musing and agree that love is very sensible.
