Hem Tape

If you don't mind using an iron, they have this great stuff - hem tape. You just put it inbetween the fold & iron! It seriously takes only a minute. Although, I'll admit to masking tape in the past haha, and I'm a pro at hiding safety pins!

I would have brought you fabric glue. One of the tricks I learned in Apparel Production -- and from Project Runway :)

You can even put it through the washer with duct tape on it and it comes back out intact. true story.

Visit my blogs at ThreeSeven (all that's irrelevant and amusing) and
Hemming a skirt, Elisa-style

Since BlogHer is this week I have planned out my outfits scrupulously...does anyone else do that?

Anyway, today I pulled a new skirt out of the dry cleaning pastic to wear...as scrupulously planned. It's Calvin Klein, I got it on sale at Macy's, and I've worn it exactly once: At BlogHer Business last March.

Put it on to discover the hem is completely unraveling across the front! What to do?? Changing outfits just didn't seem an option. No, I had planned to wear this, and wear it I was going to do. So I went downstairs and grabbed some Scotch tape and taped that hem.

I'm classy like that.

Funny thing is when I tweeted this I got more @replies than I think I've ever gotten before. Seems lots fo women have had to do similar hacks in the absence of mad sewing skillz.

Some of their suggestions:

elleinthecity: @elisac I've been known to staple skirts. Heaven forbid I have to thread a needle and sew

JennaWoodul: @elisac I've been doing that since I was about 12 I think. Drove my mother crazy.

MaryTrigiani: @ElisaC You should try Hollywood tape. It's great for emergencies and holds better than scotch tape. PS: shame on that cleaner.

socalmom: @ElisaC I'm an old hand at Scotch taping hems. (5'2" -- too lazy to hand stitch)

hardaway: @elisac. I do that all the time. try duct tape

nominivan: @ElisaC you didn't use a stapler!!!?? :)

kalynskitchen: @ElisaC If I ever get there I have sewing stuff and will hem for you. (I'm former Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow and I can hem!)

lizhenry: @ElisaC I'll bring you duct tape, it works so much better for hems plus has a certain geeky aura to it

lauriewrites: @elisac Have done much worse clothing repair. Points for ingenuity.

Thanks for your support, tweeps!
