Ok here goes. I am excited

Ok here goes. I am excited about all comments but never had much of a celebrity visit, but when a writer's assistant replied to an email, was quite excited. Yes yes I know I am pathetic. And hey I am from India - mentioning since someone commented about locations :-)

I frequently gripe to anyone that will listen that there just aren't enough Canadian women blogging about issues. Of course, I don't blog about them on my personal blogs either so I'm one the people I gripe about. I'm really happy to see so many women blogging about the Canadian election this fall.

I haven't been

I haven't been "discovered" yet. :)

What thrills me though, is to learn who's reading my blog through word of mouth-- my cousin's co-worker, my children's audiologist, my parent's neighbors in another state. I'm always in awe that someone takes the time to actually read what I write!

SW Flight Attendant

I don't think she was an attendant on our flight. She probably has a "Google Alert" set for Southwest Airlines and likes to read what people are saying. In any case, it was good followup customer service and good PR for Southwest. Good for her! She gave me a smile.

I'll tell you the truth - when Sassymonkey links me, I'm a happy woman too. I'm not sure I've written anything worth her linking to me lately - I think you've inspired me to work on that. Maybe something ranty about the Booker Short List, that would probably get a link from her!

My mom is like that actually - sometimes she comments, sometimes she emails me directly about something on my blog. I can't quite figure out what causes her to do either one.

I know what you mean. My 18 year old reads my blog but does not comment. The other two big kids don't care at all. Not even a little bit. They're busy. Hmph. Too busy for their poor old mother. Hah.

Now that's a great comment!

Was the flight attendant one who was on your flight or just a random SW flight attendant?

I once posted about a restaurant that we didn't enjoy, on a message board that was not private but very well hidden, the owner found my comment and came and posted a reply. I was amused and grouchy all at the same time.

Comments that make you smile.

I've never had anyone I could call a celebrity comment on one of my blogs, but I had a couple of interesting ones lately.

On MS Maze, I linked to a newspaper story about a woman in the UK with MS, who was having trouble receiving much needed benefits. Several days later, she left a comment to inform me that her situation had changed and she WOULD be getting her benefits after all. I was thrilled to hear from her and to know that she would be okay.

On Conversations Over Dinner, I just did a post about the wonderful customer service we received from Southwest Airlines. Wouldn't you know it? A Southwest flight attendent left a comment saying that she was glad we enjoyed our flights! She made my point perfectly.

It just makes you smile!

I Welcome and am Thrilled by All comments

I would be especially thrilled if I could get my son to read my blog. He just hasn't gotten around to it yet.

But, honestly, it's a thrill to know that the words I write have reached some one. It's a way to connect with people. When I've written a post I thought was especially witty or insightful and haven't gotten a comment - it makes me have a momentary pity-party but I keep a going.

It's interesting to check the stats and see what posts continue to draw traffic. I also note posts that gets comments on my blog vs on blogher and vice versa.

I love getting feedback

I look at comments as feedback to my writing.

Blogeberties? I'm not sure. I've only been doing this for a short period of time. I just signed on to Blogher. I have had some comments. I do get e-mails from friends and family about my blog and have a pretty good following of people who read on a daily basis but they aren't big on commenting.

I Love Comments

I'm relatively new here, so I haven't received many comments yet (and my blog doesn't really get a lot of traffic, I'm still finding my voice). However, when Sassymonkey linked to my post about the debates (Canadian election) I fully admit to doing a happy dance. Someone from Blogher was actually reading what I wrote and LINKED to me!!!

Ok, I'm still pretty excited about it.

I have cherished all the comments that I've received here. Your comment was the first I received after I started blogging a bit about politics and the Canadian election. I was so thrilled that someone actually read my random thoughts!

Even though I know that comments are not an indication of "success or good writing", they do let the blogger know that s/he is not writing just for him/herself. Just knowing that someone else is reading and responding gives me the drive to keep going, to explore new territory, to grow as a writer and a blogger.

I think that the comments make me a better blogger.

Crafty Chica commented on my blog just an hour I commented here! And it wasn't even a crafty post!

Crafty Chica! My day is made!

Now I'm wishing I'd said that I hoped Peeler commented on my fitness blog.

Nah... I'd really rather have comments from Trainer Guido (who looks a whole lot like the Peeler) or Trainer Adam (who you can see with me here) or one of my RL gym buds. But maybe I need to hand out blog cards so they can do that!

Blog comments that make you say "wow!"

I have to admit right up front, I'm not a blogger who gets really excited or really bummed about blog comments. I love and appreciate the comments that I get but I spend next to no time worrying about whether a post has comments or not. I don't blog for comments and I spend enough time knee deep in metrics to know that comments do not necessarily indicate success or good writing.

Having said that, I'm going to tell you that there are some comments that have made me scream with glee and there have been some comments that have caused me to scrap what I was blogging and blog something else entirely. This is one of those posts - I was blogging about moving and kids and school but something happened so here I am, blogging about comments.

Way back in 2005 I had a relatively new blog, Daily Dose of Denise. I had just made the commitment to BE a blogger rather than someone who blogged occasionally as an online community experiment when Nancy White commented on my blog. Even though Nancy has commented on my blog several times since that day, has linked me on more than one occasion and I've met her in person, I was still tempted to type that as OMG NANCY WHITE COMMENTED ON MY BLOG! It was just that big of a deal to this community geek.

Now if that's not enough to get someone excited, a couple of days later Scoble commented on my blog. And yes, once again, I was tempted to over-use the caps even though I no longer read his blog or follow his twitter or his friend feed. It's still cool to me that he commented.

I also fondly remember the day that Beth Kanter emailed me about teaching poetry because of a comment I left about something she'd said. (8/9/05 - I still have the email!) That was really huge to me. THE Beth Kanter! Now I think about that and I laugh because I work with Beth and I've met her many times. Still, it was a huge day for me.

I've had some other commenters who have just made my day because of WHO they are: Mary McDonough who played Erin on The Waltons. Rick Riordin's wife - he writes the children's book series about Percy Jackson.

There's my history with celebrity (or almost celebrity or celebrity just to me) commenters. It's been awhile since I've had one of those types of comments but today my partner had one...

CRESCENT DRAGONWAGON COMMENTED ON TW'S BLOG! errr sorry. See, I'm excited. I had the pleasure of informing TW of this momentous occasion because I saw the comment first. I yelled across the desk to TW when I saw it. And then, I tweeted it. And now, I keep saying it over and over again. It's awesome. Blogging just does NOT get more exciting than that.

Have you had a "celebrity" or a "celebrity to you" comment on your blog? Whose comment would make you jump up and down for joy? Now excuse me while I go yell it again a few more times...

Crescent Dragonwagon commented on TW's blog! Wow.

~~Denise
