Room 1 On the Presidential Trail!

THANKS SOOOO MUCH FOR PROMOTING MY STUDENTS' PROJECT, ROOM 1 ON THE PRESIDENTIAL TRAIL!!

When I told them someone had blogged about our project that led into an entire lesson today about what "blogging" is!! When they realized someone was really writing about our special class in the little old state of Mississippi they were so excited and so was I. We are so very thankful to have supporters for our public schools and for people like you who take time to make a difference in our lives.

They are hoping and waiting to see if we will meet our goal and be able to receive our laptop before the elections in November. We want to continue following the process all the way to the inauguration next year. The kids are very excited about the upcoming election and the entire process. They are also very opinionated and I'm very excited about that as well.

Thanks again for everyone's support of Room 1 on the Presidential Trail!

Denise, thank you so much for leading BlogHer's participation in this terrific initiative! Is anyone else as impressed as i am by this site? It's like eBay for making a difference -- I feel as though I'm sitting in a school office, flipping through a teacher wish-list to parents.

And the projects are *terrific*. As someone who went to (with the exception of one brilliant writing teacher, Mrs. Skinner, if you're reading this) the WORST public elementary school on the planet, it's a pleasure to send a few dollars to people who are thinking up these projects. I gave $25 each to:

Thanks for the heads up! I just added my own giving page for Economics for Teachers. Seems a bit odd that they don't have a category set up for edubloggers specifically but it's so great for Blogher to be involved!

We've joined the DonorsChoose Blogger Challenge in support of public schools

Starting today, the blogosphere is banding together in support of public education by helping to raise funds for projects submitted by teachers through DonorsChoose.

While Fortune Magazine and a lot of bloggers are going to call this a competition, I'd rather call it a community effort. We can all work together to make a difference and help students and teachers achieve important goals.

Here's how you can help.

* Blog it! The BlogHer Challenge Page is where you'll find all of the challenge pages created by BlogHer Contributing Editors and BlogHer members. Tell your readers about the challenge. Ask them to blog about it. Getting the word out about this challenge is the most important thing you can do to help.

* Consider making a donation to a project that speaks to you. We've given you a lot to choose from. Even a $1 donation helps. Ask your readers to make a donation, if they can. Some of these projects are going to expire soon and we don't want to see any project go un-funded.

* If you like, you can create your own DonorsChoose giving page, selecting projects that are really important to you or projects from areas you're specifically interested in helping. (I'll be making a page with projects from all of the US cities I've lived in!) When you create your page, you can add it to the BlogHer Challenge Page and we'll help spread the word about your projects.

* Add the BlogHer DonorsChoose widget to your blog. There are three sizes to choose from (code available here: BlogHer DonorsChoose widget)
