Local Transit info/route planning

For anyone coming to SJ from SFO or Oakland or anywhere else in the area, who want to try working out a route that best fits their needs (fastest trip at cheapest rate, least number of transfers, etc), the 511.org site can help you out. We locals can then answer specific questions, probably.

For instance, you can do a SFO to BART to Caltrain to Light Rail route to get you from SFO to the Hyatt, for 9 bucks...but you'll be on transit for 2 hours.

Getting from the Airport to BlogHer

If you haven't made your flight plans yet and can fly into the San Jose airport this will be your best bet. There is a courtesy phone in the baggage claim area that you use to call the Hyatt and they will send their shuttle around to pick you up. The hotel is just a few minutes away from the airport.

If you are flying into San Francisco and do not plan to rent a car and don't connect with others to carpool, here is a link to ground transportation options. There are various options on the left hand side and you can interactively click to get pricing options to SJC (San Jose airport) highlighted on the map. The price for a Taxi is listed as about $124 right now. If you come during a rush hour period it will cost even more. So, it might cost less to pay to change a plane ticket into San Jose rather than fly into SF or to rent a car in some cases.

There are other options such as shuttle buses and no doubt some combination of trains and/or buses that can be worked out at a much lower cost. Try to factor in how much time any option will take, though.

Hotel Options

If you cannot get a room at the Hyatt or would like something a bit less expensive at the rack rate there is a Fairfield Inn about a block down and across the street. I just checked and right now it is at $119 which is a bit lower than at the Hyatt.

Feel free to email me through my BlogHer account if you have questions about other hotel alternatives in the area and I'll be happy to share information from the research I've done.

BlogHer '06: Day Two, Hotel approach sell-out

Time for another capacity update for BlogHer Conference '06, and I've got news on both the hotel front and the conference itself:

Read about:
100 seats left for Day Two

Hotel room block sold out, final number of rooms added

Conference Update: 100 seats left for Day Two

We now have about 100 seats left for Day Two. To give you some perspective, it took 3 weeks for Day One to sell out once we announced that there were 100 seats left. So I'd say it's a good bet the conference will be completely sold out by the time we hit the July 4th long weekend. Because Day Two is structured differently than Day One we have capacity for almost double the number of attendees, so it is going to be one big party by the pool!

To recap: You can still buy tickets for Day Two only (which includes breakfast, lunch, a cocktail party and a full day of interactive discussions for only $99) plus you can start your BlogHer experience early by purchasing a ticket for the Day One cocktail party for $25. But whatever you do: do it in the next couple of weeks!

Hotel Update: $75 room block completely sold out; 10 rooms per night added for $95

We would like to thank you all because as of last week we have officially reserved triple the number of room nights we committed to bring to the Hyatt! (Probably the biggest apprehension event organizers have is that they'll end up paying for hotel rooms that never sold.)

The Hyatt extended our block of rooms and extended our block of rooms, but they have finally cried "uncle." They have now added 10 more rooms for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at a still-very-reasonable $95 room rate. After that it's rack rates only.

They have obviously let us reserve far more rooms than anticipated at the conference rate, and I want to thank them for their flexibility. Like last year, BlogHer is coinciding with the San Jose Grand Prix, so while other hotels are planning to cash in on this major tourist event, the Hyatt is turning their hotel over to BlogHers from around the world!

To recap: There are no more $75 rooms available for BlogHer, but they have added 10 more rooms at a still-reasonable rate of $95. Get 'em while they're hot.

As always, feel free to contact me if you have any conference-related questions.
