Make your own

Why not buy some ground beef and make your own burgers? Put on whatever you want. Go nuts. No matter what it's going to be better for you than fast food Whoppers and such. If you are addicted to the chains, you know their advertising and food production techniques are working. Because it's not your body that craves the Whopper, it's your mind. How do you FEEL after eating fast food?

Having worked at a feedlot and taken care of "factory meat" I can say that not all commerically raised animals are abused. Far from it. Some are, that's true. But that video insinuates that ALL are abused, and it's not true.

But back on point... 63g of fat. Duuuuude. That's a loooooong timeon the treadmill!!

I have been soooooo tempted to try that Angry Whopper since it has the peppers and the fire I crave but I don't think I will now after reading all of this. I have come to realize it is a gateway burger and can only bring me pain and sorrow. lol.

Do Not Walk or Drive Near A Whopper!

Tough love but your heart is at risk! I speak from experience, if I am near the foods I love somehow they wind up down my throat. Took practice but I don't go into the Donuts shops and Pizza joints.

I'd rather for you to go to Whole Paycheck and buy a healthy pre-made meal than to consume that burger. What am I saying? Trader Joe's for sure.

Honestly, that Whopper is the guy you love and must leave behind. No communication, no longing looks and no late night hook-ups. You'll have the shakes for a bit and you might relapse and head for the counter but let it go, let it go!

There will be others to take your place. The sodium alone, kid, do you know how much water you'd need to flush that out?

Let the bum go, I mean the burger.
Thanks for the Warning!

I loooooves me some spicy grub, and fast food is a real temptation for me--so thanks for the post! I'll definitely be avoiding the angry whopper, for sure.

For me, it's making myself go completely without that sends me into a tailspin. But if I allow myself that burger--or whatever it is--on occasion with controlled portion and choosing the right burger, ordering w/o mayo... you get the idea. Finding ways to have my cake and eat it, too is important to me. And if that means a wendy's 99 cent mini-burger or the whopper jr no mayo then you have satisfied your hunger (especially when you're out & about) and not done too much damage.

Having a plan is necessary when you need to stick to a diet--be it for weight loss reasons or necessary dietary restrictions. As a diabetic I find planning a necessity (though it doesn't always happen, I admit). I keep a can of nuts in the car--and I know I can always stop by my local drug/convenience mart and pick up a sugar-free yogurt. (I also keep plastic spoons in the car.)

http://meatlessmama.blogspot.com/

If you plan and always keep some healthy food available and ready to eat, resisting that temptation becomes easier. You also need to change your mindset to focus on how good you feel when you eat healthy rather than how deprived you are when you don't get fast food. Also, watch this meet your meat video:

sometimes its the trying not to that does it

I know this wont help much, but sometimes its the very things I do to try and stop myself that feeds the addiction. The more I say "ITs BAD" and "ITS TERRIBLE" the more power I give that thing, the more I focus on it.

I suppose one way would be to have a pre-emptive strategy - can you change your routine so that you are not tempted?

Its no good thinking that you just have to get more will power - that is doomed to failure.

Sometimes cravings are caused by simply being thirsty - you think you are craving junk food, but meanwhile your body wants water.

I don't know if this will work for you but.....

After watching/reading "Fast Food Nation," as well as interviews with the author, I realized that not only is it the nutritional implications/quality of the food that serve as deterrents from eating fast food, but also the political and social implications of supporting said places.

As a member of a capitalist society, where I choose to spend my money is one of the strongest (if not the strongest) votes I have. So whenever I start to get a craving for some of the comforting grotesque goodness that is fast food, I remind myself that I am contributing to an even greater evil than my caloric intake.

Needless to say, it doesn't always work for me when it's late and I'm tired and starving and don't want to make something for dinner when I get home. Fast food restaurants are ubiquitous and when you're tired and hungry your willpower is low. The biggest thing for me is that if I eat fast food one day, I always want it the next day or the day after. If I start, something in me/the food triggers an intense craving for more, which is where it can get tricky. It's so bad...but something about fast food is so horribly good. So I make it my goal to not start that reaction--and try to keep convenient options at home so I can fight the voice that says, "ohh, just get a cheeseburger...it'll be so much easier."

Side-note: Since I read about some freaky chicken breeding/growing at KFC from PETA, I have not been able to even think about eating their chicken (I never liked anything but the boneless chicken to begin with). I don't even care if it's true/sensationalized because every time I even think/hear mention of KFC, I cringe and imagine creepy alien chickens.

Good luck and may you think about the implications of, "You are what you eat!" It's silly but you don't want to be an ANGRY whopper, do you?!

Help! I'm Addicted To An Angry Whopper.

Is there a such thing as "healthy" fast food?

I think if you work hard at it, it is possible to eat healthy at some fast food restaurants. But to do this you also have to find the willpower to see those giant pictures of burgers and fries all around, and still choose to buy the less attractive healthy item. It's not always easy, and recently it's become a real problem for me.

After doing well at making healthy food choices and even losing weight, a few weeks ago I fell off the wagon. It's so bad that I am actually afraid to get on the scale to see the extent of the damage. The crazy thing is, I'm not a fast food junkie (or at least I never was), but something called an Angry Whopper is turning me into a total addict. Seriously, I feel totally out of control. The worst part is, it was just a whim that I even tried this stupid thing in the first place, and every day since I have been wishing I could turn back time and replay that decision.

I really need to get a handle on this, and even though I know it is sooooo bad for me to eat these things, something is just not clicking. Ironically, it was about two years ago that I developed a similar problem with a Natcho Cheese Chalupa at Taco Bell. I think the turning point for me with the Chalupa was when I actually looked up the nutritional value (or lack there of).

So, I need to give myself an Angry Whopper intervention, and I think I know just how to do that...

As much as it pains me to find out the truth about this burger, I am going to Google the Burger King Angry Whopper right now and get the hard truth on the nutritional value of my menacing addiction -- two Whopper flame-broiled hamburgers topped with Angry Onions, jalapenos, pepper jack cheese and Angry Sauce.

Here goes...

Nutritional Value for the Burger King angry Double Whopper

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I knew it was going to be bad, but this is unbelievable. It's 1,120 calories and more than half of the calories are from fat (657 calories). There are 63 grams of fat, 1675mg of sodium, 59 grams of carbs, and 175mg of cholesterol.

OK. It's painfully obvious that if I continue to eat these things I will be back up to my heaviest weight in no time, and I can't let that happen. I know I have to stop cold turkey, I just hope I can. If you have any advice or wisdom for me on how I can keep this commitment to myself, please let me know in comments.

What do you think? How do you feel about fast food? Are you addicted? Were you ever addicted? Here is some of what other women are saying about fast food.

From Girly Fitness - Is There Fast Food That Won't Make You Fat?....

I often find myself far from home and hitting up the fast food drive-thru. I know that it is not optimal, but there are actually some fast foods that you can eat that will at least allow you maintain a healthy weight. There are plenty of bad things typical to fast food: high fat, simple carbohydrates, and lack of nutrients. I must say, even these choices here are minor offendors!

From Chef Ann -- Fast Food = Fat Kids...

Just in from the department of not-so-surprising news: a study has found that young teenagers tend to be fatter when there are fast-food restaurants within one block of their schools.

The report found an increased obesity rate of at least 5.2 percent among teenagers at schools where fast-food outlets were a tenth of a mile — roughly one city block — or less away.

To remedy that, Eric N. Gioia, a city councilman from Queens, wants to stop fast-food restaurants from opening so close to the city’s schools.

From Fit Sugar - KFC Goes Grilled...

As posting calorie counts becomes mandatory in more and more places, many fast food restaurants are trying to lure health-conscious customers back in an effort to boost slumping sales. Following its competitors that have been offering grilled fare for years, Kentucky Fried Chicken is now serving up buckets of grilled chicken, which is much healthier than its fried counterpart. The grilled chicken will cost the same as KFC's Original Recipe, but the caloric price is considerably lower.

From The Collegian Online - Calories on Campus...

“Many students think that all fast food is a bad option but you can make healthy choices,” Ann Lentell, a registered dietitian who teaches in the food science and nutrition department, said.

Just knowing which items to choose can make a big difference in the nutrition of your meal. Let’s take a look at some healthy and some not so healthy options at the eateries on campus:
