Deb and everyone else, it's fine to not have photos if you can't get them. And I can totally relate to longing for markets far away. Here where I live we have some fine markets, but I still dream about the one in Velleron in Provence that I wrote about a couple months ago...not to mention the Tsukiji market in Tokyo (where I grew up...well not in the market itself) which is like the most amazing food market in the world. Still I'm quite happy with what we can get here locally too. The world is full of great markets, for which I am very grateful!

A week hardly goes by without my writing something market-related on my blog. As such I don't think I will be entering 'destinations', since it is a bit general, but that's not going to stop me from continuing to write about my market finds, for sure.

I have a serious addiction to the St. Lawrence Market in downtown Toronto. It makes me happy. There's the South Market which is full of butchers, bakeries, cheesemongers, the mustard man, delis, etc. The north market is the actual "farmers market" part of the market.

I hate high-rise buildings but there is one right beside the St. Lawrence Market that has a walking bridge that goes over the street to the side entrance of the South Market. I'm so jealous of the people in that high-rise...

Here was the problem: You prefaced all your comments by typing in a commercial for your business. That's inappropriate.

I find it poignant, that you long for a faraway spot. Maybe write to the market master, I bet they'd be more than happy to provide a few shots. By chance, I'm going the easy route too, the market master of my local spot was taking shots on Saturday, he's going to send me them and I'm just going to use them!

Since the second FD is about green grocers.. I am so tempted to write about a place miss: The West Side Market in Cleveland. But not living there, I can't get the great photos. Sigh. Maybe Mako will create a future destination for those places far away...

I love farmer's markets

Ah very fun, and I do have a wonderful green market in my neighborhood, although I can't afford to shop there all the time. It sells only fresh, organic food and has wonderful stuff. The name of the place is Liberty Heights Fresh and if any foodies pay a visit to Salt Lake it is a destination not to be missed. Salt Lake also has a pretty great farmer's market, but it doesn't have the selection of specialty products (like Rosemary Salt, which I am now addicted to) that I found at the Ferry Building farmer's market in San Francisco which Sam is lucky enough to visit regularly.

Here's an easy, easy way to give your hometown farmers market a worldwide audience ... just participate in I Was Really Just Very Hungry's upcoming Destinations event. And there's a prize! So who's visiting the local farmers market? a nearby green market?

Contributing Editor Alanna Kellogg walks to the Kirkwood farmers market two or three times a week, this week for tomatoes for slow-roasted tomatoes and peaches for peacherry blues. The best stop is the snow cone stand where the dog gets a canine cooler ... liver-flavored. "Ewww", the kids say, turning up their noses at something so gross, then announce, missing the irony, "I got Monkey Snot!" and "I got Tiger Blood!"
