It totally wasn't a bad thing. Swing shifts, nights shifts, day shifts, morning call-ins.
I hated having to wake up at 5:30 to drive into 'the office'. Of course... after about two years or so, I grew to like my quiet early mornings, and it was nice to have a set schedule instead of the way my previous jobs were.
Anyway, I look forward to reading more posts by you, you've got such a fun style! :-D

Welcome to the Real World: An Introduction

On May 8th, 2005 I found myself in the precarious, yet expected, position of being a college graduate. Itâ€™s funny how the day before, everything was awesome and I had health insurance and had spent every last dime on a five month bender through Europe. By May 9th, a gorgeous Monday morning, I almost had a nervous breakdown while cruising through Georgetown on babysitting interviews. I had been asked no less than 50 times what I would be doing after graduation and while I had had some idea of what I wanted to do when I first began my college years, suddenly I was at a loss. And thereâ€™s really nothing like babysitting after four years of university to make you really question if graduating was really worth it. You will find out soon enough that I tend to be hyperbolic and go to extremes. I thought I was a failure because I didnâ€™t have a job to start that Monday and my â€œunemploymentâ€? lasted all of six weeks. Six strenuous weeks in which I actually started baking and cleaning my apartment on a regular basis. Thatâ€™s some serious stuff right there.

It was around this time that I started blogging because wouldnâ€™t it be fun to share my woes and over dramatic behavior with the world? I describe my personal blog as a â€œneurotic and narcissistic account of my first year out of college.â€? Though Iâ€™m now on my second year out, Iâ€™m just as neurotic and narcissistic as I was a year ago and still wondering how much to contribute to my 401K. Think of this new little space here on BlogHer as the diary of a â€œyoung workaholic.â€? Though thatâ€™s a tad misleading: Iâ€™m young, but not yet near workaholic status. I mean really, did you know that jobs â€“ unlike school or internships â€“ require you to be there for like 8 whole hours a day sans a nap? Letâ€™s just say that going from a lovely life of spa visits and shopping at 11 AM on a weekday to a life of having to be responsible and go to work every. Single. Day. Has been quite an awakening. Not to mention that I canâ€™t even afford neither the spa visits nor the shopping anymore.

Anyway thatâ€™s me, Heather B. A brand spanking new Contributing Editor to BlogHer. Delving into a world of career-dom (Scary!) and playing grown up. I can tell you one thing though; playing grown up used to be fun, now it just makes me want to cry. I know, I sound really awesome already.
