Trying to Enjoy Exercise

Is a workout itself sometimes! I am daily trying to make sure I enjoy what I'm doing. Otherwise, I'm going to give up.

I recently tried Turbo Jam and absolutely adored it. The music's fun, the instructor's a sweetheart, and I get to dance. A blast.

I have walked with Leslie Sansone for years but am sometimes bored to tears when I do it. Right now, I'm alternating walking tapes and Turbo Jam to make sure I work as much of my bodies as I can. I need to start lifting weights, but I just don't know how to get into it. Any ideas?

New Mysteries

I'm adding the mystery authors you mentioned to my "to read" list. I'm terrible about getting caught in Christie/Doyle mysteries and never giving current authors another thought!

Can't Stop Reading Stodgy British Lit

I am an avid Agatha Christie fan. I am currently collecting all of her works--I buy one a month and read other novels in between. However, I can't seem to stop reading her works. It's been delightful, though I'm not sure what I'll read when I'm finally done with them! This summer I plan to finish the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency novels and finally finish Emma. I also would love to read more Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

If anyone's looking for a light, altogether lovely read, I highly recommend "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society". It's wonderful and I fell head over heels for the characters.

Give it another try!

Like you, Sassymonkey, I wasn't bowled over by the first installment of the series. I was intrigued enough, though, to try the next. They seem to get better and better. I just finished the fifth novel and it was lovely. I hope you try it again. :)

Photography

Hello Kath and everone. As far as incorporating photos into blogs is concerned, that's just what I do. I'm a pet and wildlife photographer and use my blog for wildlife stories. I use a Nikon D200 which is great but I'm lusting after a D700!!

I'm so glad to have this forum and hope to share what I know and have discovered; as well as learning from others. Thank you for starting this!

My husband and I give each

My husband and I give each other time to pursue individual interests. I like to run and sing in the church choir and he likes to play pick-up basketball and watch sports. This give us an "outlet" outside of work and home obligations. It actually brings us closer together. We also share a love of travel and spending time with friends and family. All household duties are shared so that we can maximize our time doing other things we love. We definitely work hard, play hard!

Keeping it seperate when working from home

It's so hard to keep a work/life balance when working from home. That's why I keep myself on a work schedule. My office is open everyday from 9am to 4pm. During that time I work, no laundry, no dishes. If I need to do something around the house I can do it before or after work. At 4pm, I'm done for the day and I don't feel guilty about walking away from my desk because I know I've worked the day undistracted by "home stuff".

Doggie Mommie in Dayton

Hello all! I live in Dayton and I write about my dog, Bailey, and the company I work for (P&G Pet Care--Iams/Eukanuba). I've been blogging since 2005, but got serious about it last year when my job expanded to include social media. I just made my first domain name purchase (www.PetCareBev.com) and am in the process of moving my blog from Blogger to Wordpress (and tearing my hair out!).

So nice to find a regional community of bloggers!

Delagation

As a working mom of three, I know darn well that I am not Superman, and cannot do everything by myself.

My children, ages 7, 14, and 16, are all old enough to help out around the house with daily chores so that is what they do. I assign them all little tasks that make my day a bit easier to manage.

Also, I menu plan. I don't know how I ever got along before without doing so. I make my menu up ahead of time choosing meals from either the sales that week or what I already have in my stock. By doing this 1) I know what to take out to thaw the night before 2) My family knows what we are having 3) I don't have to spend the time last minute trying to decide what we will have 4) I save a lot of money by avoiding "quick" trips to the store to get only a thing or 2 and end of with 20.

Work/Life Balance when You are a Caregiver

As a caregiver, I found myself desperately missing the things that kept my (former) life in balance, such as:

*lunches with girlfriends

*yoga workout at the gym

* a trip to the library...and time to read the books I checked out!

So...I tried to find substitutes that kept me a little sane such as:

*using Facebook and Twitter as substitutes for exchanging gossip, gripes, and gratitudes with my girlfriends around the country

*I couldn't spare an hour anywhere to take off to the gym, so 15 minutes of yoga in the morning and 15 at night helped to keep my mind and body in tune

*Books on tape: I listen to books on tape during the commute to and from work.

No personal experience with this...

None of my past or present dogs have really minded storms, so I don't have personal experiences to relate, just a couple of things that have worked for friends that might be worth a try.

DAP (dog appeasing pheromones): this works great for some dogs and seems to have no effect at all on others. It's supposed to help with fear or stress related issues in general. I have used it successfully to help with a dog who was stressed out by long car rides. http://www.petcomfortzone.com/

Rescue Remedy: again, works great for some dogs and seems to have no effect at all on others. These are homeopathic flower essences. My personal experience is that Rescue Remedy helps me with stress more than it helps my dogs, but it was suggested to me by people who had exactly the opposite experience. http://bachflower.com/

Both of these products are locally available as well as by 'net order, and more importantly, even when they don't work, they are natural products that also don't cause any harm, so might be worth a try!

Fun is so important...

The last three weeks I've tried a new regimen - it's called Fit Yummy Mummy. I've listed pros and cons on my blog (for that and even other things I've tried). So far it seems very thorough and efficient (if you can get past the promotion heavy website). I think for my body at least, I need good resistance training and some good cardio, which this workout provides.

I tried going another route entirely - straight Callanetics, followed by Core Fusion Body Sculpt... etc. but didn't see the results I'm seeing now. It takes a while to find the right thing, doesn't it? And I'm still not sure my latest "find" is it, but for sure it feels closer...
