Sonic Toothbrush

This is GREAT! It is hard for kids to understand that they have to brush for 2 minutes. Come on it's even hard for adults, but Sonicare has made it easier and more "kidified" to brusha brusha brusha:)

When my son is fussy he'll calm down and even falls asleep during car rides.

kikisb2002@yahoo.com

gentle touch and gentle scent

All humans respond well to loving touch, and it's been proven that ill babies in the ICU have a higher survival rate when they're touched/held over babies who are not. So lots of rocking, back rubbing, forehead kisses, tummy nuzzles. Also gentle sound, such as the hum of mommy's voice. Doesn't matter if you can't sing, your baby will think you sound like Celine Dion anyway ;) Just let her/ him hear the soft hum of your voice, try humming a lullaby. Also, scent is a strong presence in human beings, especially babies. Aromatherapy can be so soothing to baby. Have some lavender baby wash or lavender aromatherapy oil near by, left the scent waft into the baby's room right before bedtime, so use lavender baby wash during baby's bath right before a nap. Lavender is a scent that is nurturing and calming to all creatures, especially babies :)

Library. Boardgames and Housework

My 5-month old LOVES going to the library. Squeals with delight when we walk in! My 6-year old sister (who I watch after school) is always asking to play boardgames. My whole family is a big boardgame family. And the two of them both love doing housework! Well, the 5-month old just watches, but it's amazing how excited she gets when I fold laundry or clean the kitchen!

I'd love to have legos on hand for them to play with- I have many fond memories of them growing up!

----

www.theleppers.blogspot.com

green family

The biggest change we have made has been to switch to cloth diapers. We have two kids in diapers and disposables were so wasteful. I love how whenever we make a change like this it always positively affects our wallet!

play

My daughter loves to take legos and make intricate mazes and pathways for her toys. I think she is more of a 2 dimensional person when it comes to creativity (so am I and I have a degree in art!). I was never a big fan of blocks because of this but it is nice to see that she is still able to enjoy blocks even if she does not like to build up.

Castle Challenge

One rainy afternoon as my toddler was napping and I needed to get some work done, my ten-year twin boys were bouncing off the walls around me. Somehow inspiration hit me - it might have been because I had just stepped on a lego while trying to get to my office space - and I challenged them with a lego castle-making contest with a surprise for the winner. The ground rules were they had try for atleast an hour and no stealing pieces from each other. I was shocked! They spent two hours on their project and were so proud of their efforts. Of course, I couldn't pick a winner so they both shared the prize! I can't remember what it was - but it was something simple like picking dessert for that night.

I simplify my life by

I simplify my life by planning ahead and trying to be as organized as I possibly can. I try to not wait until the last second to do things and I try not to be late. I write everything down and I make lists.

Using imagination

I have two boys, a 3 year old and a 19 month old. We've been taking walks around our neighborhood. Some days, they will ride their bikes. I spend the walk, pointing out the different plants and trees along the way. We also talk about the shapes and colors of the things we see. They love being outdoors, but when we're inside, I always try to find more enducational games. They love playing with playdoh and reading..my 3 year old can sit for an hour, just flipping through books. They also love playing with our foam blocks. I've been listening to my son use his imagination..he pretends he's a dinosaur stomping through the different entry ways and tunnels he makes with the blocks. I think both of my sons would love playing with Duplo. I'm just happy that they're not really interested in tv shows. They're happy using their imaginations!

All my kids had loveys (blankets or pillows) to help soothe them to sleep. My youngest also loves it when we pat each other's cheeks very very softly.

My daughter's school has a zero-plastic bag initiative, and she really takes it seriously. She won't accept her lunch if it's packed in a disposable plastic bag. It really keeps me honest!

Grocery shopping

One of the ways I try to simplify my life is to only go grocery shopping once a week. It doesn't seem like it would save that much time but I've seen such a difference! I also try to go to smaller grocery stores because you can shop through them so quickly, rather than the large box stores like Meijer or Walmart. An hour or more can fly by when you're shopping there!

Trader Joes

One of the girls in the youth group at my church was telling me about Trader Joes where she worked and all their healthy food at a good price. I went and saw how easy it was to eat naturally and/or organically, so we've made the switch!
