Love the idea. Can we get t-shirts?

As for our animal 'volunteers', it just doesn't seem fair. There's just no two ways about it.

Volunteering for Humankind

At least humans get the opportunity to volunteer and opt-out of the program if the procedures, er, circumstances become too barbaric for them to handle.

Perhaps there should be 'celebrate opposable thumbs day.'

Earth and Sky

I enjoy the program called Earth and Sky, particularly since it often explains what you'll be seeing in the night sky. It covers all sorts of science topics, including astronomy. It's available as a podcast. http://www.earthsky.org/

Check out our "Research, Academia & Education" topic

Hi Amy,

Actually, we do have a topic area in our long list that applies: Research, Academia and Education or http://www.blogher.com/topic/research-academia-education.

We have two terrific contributing editors in this topic, and if you click on their names you can read their most recent posts on this site, as well as check out their personal blogs:

Leslie Madsen-Brooks

Gena Haskett

I'm no expert on why Tom might be getting more questions from girls - I think I'll leave that to Gena and Leslie!

Awesome post

The day Challenger exploded is one I won't ever forget. I was standing in a very dark, very crowded bottom floor room of the Ft Bragg Army Hospital trying to convince the powers that be to let me deliver my son at the civilian hospital (as I had done with my daughter 3 years before) rather than at the Army facility.

The TV was on in the corner. Kids were crying. Adults were cranky. It was hot, even though in there and I was annoyed with the entire process and circus that is military life. I wasn't watching TV at all. Suddenly the entire room got quiet. And then a collective gasp.

Hi tzt

There are quite a few posts from our Research, Academia & Education Contributing Editor, Leslie Madsen Brooks, like this one:

http://www.blogher.com/science-medley-now-killer-whales-share

But you are correct there isn't a category for science. As our free tagging functionality evolves more posts will have the tag and you'll be able to search for and find them that way. In the meantime thanks for pointing us to your post!
