Anti-Inflammatory Diet ...

Catherine,

This posting is obviously near and dear to my heart as Catapult Fitness is my blog.

I realize that there are likely skeptics in regards to the extent food plays in reversing chronic conditions. The best case study I've found to date is Donald Gazzaniga.

Don was a writer/producer/director and owned a large production services
company that provided film crews for many sitcoms back in the 1970s. After being diagnosed with congestive heart failure and headed for a heart transplant (YES,
this man was on a list to receive a heart transplant!), Don, along with
his wife who is a Registered Dietitian, developed a meal plan for him
that kept his sodium intake to < 500 mg/day.

The result? Don’s name has been removed from the transplant list.

Change what you eat and not only will you change your health, but you'll likely be very happy with the reflection you see in the mirror!

Great article and hopefully it receives many more comments!

Susan

I totally agree. I was in

I totally agree. I was in chronic pain for at least 3-4 years. The pain would radiate from one place to the next. I had hives, stomach pain, muscle twitches, and just shear pain everywhere. The spot could change from one day to the next or one minute to the next. I went to a dermatolgist, had a colonoscapy, went to a rheumatologist. Everyone told me I was fine. But I knew I was not fine. I am only 36 and I refused to believe that I would spend the rest of my life feeling terrible. I have a family that I needed to tend to and I also was always tired. Almost 3 months ago I decided to do the 21 day cleanse where you eliminate ....gluten, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and all animal products from your diet for 21 days. After two weeks I could not believe the differnce. I took my daugther to great adventure and actually teared up because it was the first time in almost 4 years that NOTHING hurt me. And I mean NOTHING. I have continued with the Gluten Free diet and stay away from dairy at all costs. I will eat animal protein once a week and have replaced sugar with Agave Nectar. I have never had better night sleeps or better days or more energy in as long as I can remember. I am only sad that I did not do this sooner.

trying new forms of exercise

Hi Catherine,

I've just tuned into the Good-Health-A-Thon (I'll have to go back and read the various posts. Really interesting subjects covered!)

But I have been participating in my own way...trying different forms of exercise to challenge myself.

Two big challenges other women might find appealing:

1) spinning (really fast cycling to really fast beats!)

2) kettle bells (weights with a handle that you swing)

Worth checking out.

In good health,

Rebecca

but, and that's a big butt...I still overeat, healthy food, just too much of it.

The upside of all this is I can jog three miles for the first time in years and can lift anything I want. I've lost 20 pounds but still have 20 to go. The other plus is our kids are watching and mimic us-- learning excercise is good.

I've come a long way, but still have miles to go.

Lily Hydrangea

This is so true! The days I get less sleep than I need, I eat more as I try to find energy to get me through the day. Lately I have started napping as opposed to snacking, I'll let you know if it helps.

We Love Bikram

My co-worker and I started Bikram Yoga together after work once a week (every Monday). We love it. We have been doing it for about a year now and we love it. It is a great way to kickstart the week. While it is slow it is also upbeat and you are continuously moving. I am so happy we gave it a try. I also love Pilates, I find it really help me keep my body in balance. The Pilates Power Gym is a great way to workout at home.

Try exercising yourself to sleep!

I sleep best on days when I have been out walking all over creation, have gone for a good run or practiced yoga. If I don't get all my nervous energy out (and there is one more awesome way, but I don't really talk about the subject in public, lol) I'll toss and turn all night!

Bikram yoga works well

My first yoga class was at one of the Bikram NYC studios and it was the perfect way to get into it. I have never introduced it to anybody who didn't love it (after initially wanting to kill me during the first session). I totally recommend it to anybody who is not normally active, because while it is extremely physically demanding, the pace is slow and they don't push you to compete with the people around you. If you can't do something well, it's no big deal, and trust me you'll improve. There isn't a Bikram where I am in Japan right now, so I've been doing a yoga/pilates combo which is also fantastic. I say try it all! You'll sleep like a babe :-)

not quite a yoga bunny but getting there

I went on a yoga retreat last year and it has helped deal with stressful times by being physically and mentally stronger. I also met some lovely people who I am still in touch with and meet regularly with so I feel the whole yoga experience is highly beneficial. My daughter used to go to yoga and she still remembers how to do it three years later, she used to go aged 5 and that's the great thing, you're never too young or too old to enjoy it

LOVE it!

I'm in the middle of a yoga post of my own today, so I thought this was great! I'm completely addicted, and I've given myself the label of yogaphile. I've found it's most gratifying to start out as a beginner and have the opportunity to see oneself grow stronger - both physically and emotionally. I am sick less, have more energy, am able to regulate my external stress in a way that impacts me less internally, and I absolutely just dig the looseness and flexibility I feel in my body. My booty is looking pretty good, too!

And while my yoga class 2-3x/week is all about me-time, I love that my 4 year old is observing my commitment to it and is learning it is important to take care of our bodies on the inside and outside.

Thanks for linking my 48 day Challenge to a Better Me. I've definitely had ups and downs with this challenge and it's been harder than I thought. It has taught me a great deal about myself and I'm glad that I've started this challenge.
