You just miss her!

Wow! What a beautiful, insightful piece Laura! It has so many different kinds of emotions, yet the one between a mother and daughter is the most transcending. That relationship is a pleasurable one, yet can also be heartbreaking at times; especially when they are out of diapers and wearing the latest fashion.

You mentioned you weren't trying to be funny, then right after the eyeball rotations you jump straight in with the scratching of the back and Swat! Oh the humor! It is so funny to me because I can relate so much and I don't even have a daughter, but three grown babymen, yes even the five year old and he is already at that, "Scratch my back Papi." At least he still asks me to read him bedtime stories.

I believe God made it that they come out babies. That way we fall so in love with them that we can't fall out. We mesmerize ourselves in keeping them, that when they want to walk a life of their own, we frown upon them. It is life, yet it is love, and whether it feels like a scam or not, I am delighted to have been given this gift.

Well your mom is very right about that. It's so great how we are able to hold onto memories such as this. No matter how small or big the memory is we will all remember them in our hearts. God bless

It's so outrageous that the church would rather have this little girl die trying to carry a pregnancy to term than admit that in this case abortion was the right decision. This little girl is an "innocent life", why doesn't the church care about her? As if Jesus would ever in a million years condemn a little girl to suffering and possibly death because her stepfather abused her.

Feminists Not in the Woodwork

When I went to college in 1978 women understood that they had to be bitches to succeed--and would be called that if they didn't want to be secretaries, nurses, or teachers. And when I graduated in 1981, women were wearing jackets with football padding and skinny ties to work. Thank goodness we have gotten past needing to dress a part. Now we just need to part some more men from their very own egos that say they should be in charge and not the person who is most suited for the part.

Work At Home Mom

I am a stay home mom but I am also contributing to our family financially. I knew staying at home with my kids was the best decision but I also knew that I needed to help us financially....I have been able to do both and it's wonderful!

I would love to share this opportunity with anyone who is interested. Take a look at my website (www.themomteam.com/sarahneno) or email me (sarah.neno@gmail.com) and let me know the best time to call you.

Best wishes and Happy Holidays!

mommy working = more spending money

Taught that to my four-year-old last week, at which point he jumped off my lap and said Mommy had to work now.

And ooh, the Gossip Girls? Can't wait for the years ahead!

Working from home

I handle it in much the same way. Although I don't have the call outs on poo, since my daughter is now 15.

Usually she'll march into the tv room, where the computer is located and bug me about getting on. That's when I glare back, tell her mom's working and she can check her myspace page later.

At this point, since she knows that mommy working means, possibly, more $$ for her to spend, she'll turn down Gossip Girls without asking. I found out the same thing too, many of my sources now work from home as well, so they are not shocked when the dog starts barking at the cat etc.

It Really Does Take Time and A Shift In Being

One of the things that I am learning is adapting to a new sense of self. You don't have the brackets of Mother/Father anymore. Who are you now! Where do you go from here? How much time do you have left to mess around?

Time is moving faster and slower at the same time - damn it is the holidays, no, I'm not ready for them. You get to figure out how to balance those two conflicting time zones.

You can create your own traditions. The BF doesn't have to participate but maybe going someplace that brings you peace or soothes your soul, like a park or a retreat where you can be quiet. Or to a Headbangers ball. Or something in-between.

Maybe it is being in a museum or a hockey game. Or eating exactly what you want to eat even if it is non-traditional.

Be kind to yourself as you find your new space in life. And if the BF doesn't want to go on a trip leave him at home. This will help him appreciate you more when you get back. ;-)

Work

I have a suggestion for work: Pet/House sitting and companion sitting. I am unable to work a regular job so I do Pet Sitting mainly. I get between $35 and $50 a day when I do a job. Right now I am starting a Pet sitting job: 5 days at $50 a day equals $250. I will be taking my art supplies with me and spend the day drawing and pencil painting.

Some jobs are by the visit-go by the house and feed the critters. Some jobs are overnight, these jobs can be for 12 night, others for 2 weeks. Client pays for food. You can come and go if you want. Also I do some Companion sitting.

Just a thought.

Thank you for the congrats! So...you are very familiar with the changing phases of life! Each as enjoyable as the last I hope! I love the crunchy leaves...raking them all up just to play in them and do it all over again! I can't wait to share those kinds of memories with my children! Enjoy!

Congratulations and Enjoy the Season

Fall has always been my favorite season. And now that my children are getting older (12 and 17), we can still do the blend of inside and out without getting crazy being stuck inside in the cold weather. There;s nothing quite like walking through a pile of crunchy autumn leaves.
